Rose Journey Colorful Spectacle at Forty-Fourth Tournament

The forty fourth Annual Tournament of Roses drew record crowds and showcased lush floral floats under the Fairyland in Flowers theme. Mary Pickford appeared as Nation's Sweetheart in a chariot drawn by four milk white horses, with the San Marino float among standout entries as pageant crowds filled the Rose City streets.

San Marino City Club Plans Anew

The San Marino City Club reorganizes and projects a 1933 program slate for each dinner meeting. The first gathering on January 17 will feature Capt. Joseph Dickson, famed Boer army cornet commander and adventurer, sharing thrilling experiences. Officers include P. L. Cowherd president and A C Ahlswede vice president with Walter J. Miller secretary and C N Rudkin treasurer. Governors listed as A L Gram and Harry W Weber.

Henry R. Wagner Installed as President of Southern California History Society

Henry R. Wagner of San Marino was installed as president of the Historical Society of Southern California at a Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce event. The society, founded in 1884, is the oldest historical society west of the Mississippi. Wagner, once vice president of American Refining and Smelting, is a noted bibliographer and authority on Sir Francis Drake.

New Dog Ordinance Adopted by City Council

The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 229 on November 9, 1932 requiring dog licenses for the calendar year. Licenses must be paid by January 1, 1933, with a new license procured beforehand. H. W. Joyce, city clerk of San Marino, notes a credit equal to half the amount paid for the license already held.

The Oneonta Lyric Club of So. Pasadena with 26 voices under H Button presents their first concert of the season on Wednesday evening. The ensemble features soloists and a policy of presenting good choral music at a high level.

Huntington Library Magneto Card Numbers in 1932

Visitors to the Huntington Library numbered 123 684 in 1932, with five sixths obtaining cards as individuals from the Exhibitions Office. Admission for about 20 000 patrons came via group leaders from over 300 classes of students and high schools, 200 clubs, other organizations and 50 conventions.

Dr Swift to address P T A on radical groups

Building Permits in 1932 Reach $522 602 Value

The 1932 permits total 522 602 dollars for San Marino as compiled by City Building Inspector George H. Crowshey. There were 95 buildings in 1932 versus 120 in 1931. The final permit covered a Pasadena residence at 850 Holladay Road for R. R. Bush, two stories with 21 rooms, designed by Robert Ainsworth and built by the Foss Co.

The Metropolitan Water District announces a labor program for the Colorado River Aqueduct across 18 cities. Offices are set in 13 district cities. San Marino applicants go to the City Engineer's office. No hires yet. work will start when justified. Eligibility requires residence in district cities since Sept 29, 1930. ex service men with dependents receive preference. jobs prorated among cities. dependents favored when qualified.

City Library Opens Doors January 16

The new San Marino Public Library will open Monday January 16 from noon to 9 PM daily except Sundays. About 1500 books available with plans to grow this spring to meet patron requests. Free for residents and those taxed in the city. outside residents may obtain cards for a small non-resident fee. A 25 volume Historian's History of the World set donated by Mrs. Grace White of Alhambra will aid reference work. The Huntington Library trustees have designated the library as a depository.
