A local Book and Drama Forum announces its January meeting at the Henry School with Tufts as a speaker. An informal gathering with coffee will precede talks in the T. T. A. room and a tea table will feature a white color scheme and service.
Professors and students at the university discuss a new research study stressing life, intellect, and American literature. The library, in collaboration with the Branch Ameri ssociation, hosts talks on interpretation and ideas of intellectual history.
At Sewport Yacht Club regatta, President K L Road leads entrants including Warren Beebe and James L Bee aboard a victor known boat. The event drew sailors from Marinans with competition on a Saturday session.
Happiness to many shut ins and invalids came from 35 children in a school bus singing Christmas carols through San Marino. Directed by Mr and Mrs J H McLaughlin the group toured town for over two hours then returned to Huntington School for a gym party planned by Mrs E H Morrissey and Mrs James L Beebe. Treats were provided by Mrs Ralph Raulli and candy canes by Mrs Preston Hotchkiss. the event will not become an annual tradition.
Mrs Edward T Ford Jr and her husband of San Marino were killed in a United Airlines crash near Saugus on Sunday night as they planned to spend Christmas at their San Marino home. Police monitored the vacant address at 540 Bonita and noted the couple had recently moved from 2465 Cumberland Road. The Fords had visited San Francisco to celebrate the holidays with Mr Ford’s parents.
San Marino dazzles with multi color lights along Monterey Road Shenandoah Windsor Virginia Sherwood Oak Knoll and most streets. City Hall Huntington and Stoneman schools plus the Huntington Hotel entrance blaze nightly drawing admiration and boosting business as usual Christmas displays spread across the town.
San Marino reported a quiet Christmas weekend with racing activities on Christmas Day and Saturday and no traffic accidents within the city limits. Police noted the holiday week was unusually quiet and no extra officers were needed. They remain alert to arrest violators of city ordinances.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for William Henry West a longtime resident who died Thursday in Lansdowne Pennsylvania. Reverend T R Jones officiated with Turner and Stevens in charge. He is survived by wife Augusta B West daughter Elsa M West son Fred W West and two grandchildren.
Christmas week in Pasadena and San Marino featured Camp Fire Girls hosting and taking part in events. Sah Marine girls attended the Pasadena Council Vesper Service at First Methodist Church with tableaux and carols. Groups then sang to shut ins and invalids. Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls hosted Mexican girls at the Santa Welfare Association.
Ralph D. Cornell, noted Los Angeles landscape architect, will speak on Design of a Small Garden at the San Marino Garden Club meeting Friday night January 8th. The program at Huntington School Auditorium starts at 8 o clock with Mrs. Wilbur Thomas presiding and Mrs. Roy F. Ensign in charge. Cornell will present colored slides illustrating the topic and members are urged to attend with husbands to gain ideas.
The January meeting of the San Marino Business Association is scheduled for Monday January 4 at 630 p m in the Huntington School cafeteria. Dinner will be served to members and guests. Walter Ulrich chairs the program with a surprise speaker to be announced. Mrs Norman Russell handles dinner, and Bill Bridges will report on the Christmas window decorating contest as plans for the year are outlined.

Patty Lou Hall of Monterey road is selected to represent San Marino on the Metropolitan Water District float in the 1937 Tournament of Roses parade.
Clark Ewing of 341 South Greenwood Pasadena turned his car over while attempting a left turn to avoid another vehicle at Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue. The two cars did not collide and no injuries were reported though Ewing's car was damaged in the crash.

An enthusiastic visitor recalls the San Marino Studio Theatre on Kewen road eight fifteen at night with cars crowding the front. The intimate venue features candlelit foyer, a piano, rustic décor, and a warm fireplace as it prepares for the gala production of Late Christopher Bean opening January 27.
San Marino's building activity peaks in 1936 with nearly 19 million in permits over a decade. Building inspector George H. Crowshey notes 302 permits in the year, 208 new structures and 94 additions, while the city expands with high class residences and two business blocks under construction.
The San Gabriel Valley and Metropolitan units of the California Newspaper Publishers Association arrange a family outing Friday January 8 in Arcadia. They will visit the Pony Express Museum County Recreational Park and Santa Anita Racetrack to view races led by publisher P M Martindale with his horse Sumouse. A 6 30 dinner at the Santa Anita Inn precedes an 7 30 address by USC Professor Roy L French on Hitler and the German Press.
