Library Volunteers Help Meet Community Need
When Proposition 13 passed San MarinoLibrary shrank its staff and budget, yet volunteers stepped in led by retirees. Arthur Thomson and Viola Thomson head a diverse group of 45 volunteers who keep the library open and the stacks in order, shelving 80 books an hour and contributing about 135 hours monthly to re shelves and newspaper work.

February crime notes show a range from indecent exposure to burglary and drunk driving. Incidents include a Rose Avenue lawn mower theft valued at 300 dollars, a Roanoke Road home hit for 1156 dollars in jewelry and stereo gear, and a Pasqualito home robbing television sets. Community Chest Drives On In San Marino Campaign
San Marino Community Council funds preferred agencies at 100 percent and others at 40 percent as the 1980-81 Community Chest drive continues. So far 430 homes contributed 42,654.47, about 33,795 short of the 76,450 goal, with 16 of 24 agencies on the preferred list. The campaign, led by Larry Goodreau, aims to broaden participation before April 1 as volunteers mobilize for a stronger push.
