The San Marino Public Library stands as the community hub with a storied past. County records note 218 books shipped in April 1915 to the San Marino Branch, then housed in the Mayberry House on Oak Knoll, which doubled as City Hall and the first school.
San Marino residents face new bicycle rules starting January 1 1977. Riders must use a regular seat when carrying a passenger and signal turns with the usual arm position. Bikes cannot block sidewalks and must use bike lanes when moving slower than normal traffic.
The San Marino Historical Society will discuss the White Adobe at a 7 30 p m meeting in the public library on Monday January 10. Residents with old photos are invited to bring pictures of the building and share them. Mrs Glenn Smith will speak, sharing research from libraries across the state including Bancroft Library.
San Marino police say warrants were issued for two local businessmen including Wayne Austin and Associates on Huntington Drive. The firm allegedly defrauded investors of 10000 dollars and its offices were found vacant with no papers left behind. Investigators expect Austin to be located.
A note on the White Adobe, San Marino’s oldest residence, preserved amid modern homes. The piece recounts Michael Claringband White's 1815 voyage, travels through Lower California, and eventual 1850 California arrival amid revolutions and smuggling. The San Marino Celtics, formed by the San Marino Recreation Department, reached the quarterfinals by beating Athens Park 47-34 and Baldwin Hills 39-31 before a 46-45 loss to Anderson of Willowbrook. Jeff Goss led with 15 and 13 points respectively. Tom Santley scored 20 in the final game with 17 rebounds.
William H Simons promoted to Executive Vice President of Circle Seal Corporation a technology precision firm. Since 1953 he has led engineering and manufacturing and since 1974 has been Vice President Operations. He holds Caltech mechanical engineering and USC masters degrees and is a California registered engineer. Simons active in Caltech Alumni Association San Marino City Club and ASME. Rick and Kathy USC students reside with the Simons in San Marino.
