Dr Schjeiderup named to aeronautical workshop panel

Dr Hassel Schjeiderup, director of engineering technology at Douglas Aircraft, is appointed to the Panel on Materials for the Year 2000 Workshop on Aeronautical Technology. The event, approved by Dr Frank Press, runs January 15–19 at the University of Texas, Austin. Schjeiderup lives on West Drive.

Schmal Named Vice Chairman Of Winn Enterprises

William G Schmal was named vice chairman of Winn Enterprises a $550 million specialty foods and financial services company He remains chairman and CEO of Winn subsidiaries Knudsen Globe Extracts and National Fast Foods He joined Winn after Knudsen was acquired last June and has held Knudsen since 1979 He serves as a director of the Dairy Council of California and chairs the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Food Resources Committee He lives on Oak Knoll Avenue.

Four San Marino residents Lawrence Cooper Donald Crumlin Edward Johnson are re elected to the Goodwill Industries of Southern California board and Walter Hoefflin Jr is elected anew at a semi annual meeting held at the Goodwill Main Plant. Their terms begin January with the board comprising five civic business and church leaders who serve voluntarily in its sixty fourth year as a non profit providing jobs training rehabilitation and services to more than six hundred disabled and women across Los Angeles Ventura and Kern counties.

Schmid elected to CEAC board of California engineers

Ben L. Schmid, president of Ben L. Schmid Consulting Structural Engineer in Pasadena, was elected to the CEAC board of directors and will take office February 17. The CEAC is a statewide association of private practice consulting engineering firms.

Princess Karina Baffa of San Marino High School nears end of reign as she rides in the 95th Tournament of Roses Parade and attends the Rose Bowl Game. Police Officers Don Santa Uniforms For Charity Drive

San Marino Police Officers Association distrib uted toys to hospitalized children at Huntington Memorial Hospital City of Hope and other facilities and donated gifts to Haven House residents in Pasadena. Dressed as Santa and elves they handed out year long drive gifts funded by private donors, a toy store, and proceeds from a Pasadena Civic Auditorium benefit show.

San Marino prepares to route police fire and paramedic calls to 911 beginning January 7. Local tests confirm proper operation with selective routing to the city police department. nondispatch lines redirect to seven digit numbers to keep 911 clear for true emergencies.

Burglars Don’t Take Time Off For Holidays

San Marino police report multiple holiday break ins. In the 2200 block of Chaucer Road a suspect pried a window to steal a car stereo and damaged the dashboard and wind wing. Jewelry valued around 1000 dollars was taken from a residence on Meville Drive after prying a bathroom window. An unsuccessful entry attempt occurred on Warwick Road with a stolen stereo from a vehicle nearby.

818 Area Code To Replace 213

The 818 area code will serve San Marino and much of the San Gabriel Valley starting January 7 with a 10 month grace period until October 1, 1984. Pacific Telephone district manager Maury Rosas explains misdialed calls will be treated with a warning first, then blocked after October. He urges notifying contacts and updating business cards to reflect the change, which doubles available numbers in Los Angeles.

San Marino City Council to discuss paramedic assessment renewal

The San Marino City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday January 4 at 6 pm to discuss options as the three year paramedic assessment expires on June 30. A renewal measure for the April election may be placed on the ballot, with input sought from interested parties.
