Christmas Decoration Winners Named in San Marino Contest
Lucian R Hinsch Russell W Replogle and Fred B Jenkins top the annual Christmas home decoration contest by the San Marino Business and Professional Association. Hinsch won first prize for a candle lit fireplace scene with a dis of candles. Replogle second with a roof tree of lights at 2395 Lorain road. Jenkins third for a home at 2845 Canterbury road. Prizes include 50 30 and 20 gift certificates mailed this week. Honorable mentions listed for several San Marino homes.

Scouts Clean Up Right Of Way For Holidays
Troop 5 of San Marino Boy Scouts cleaned more than ten trailer loads of trash along the Pacific Electric right of way on Saturday. Led by Scout master Philip Stay and volunteer dads, they worked from San Gabriel Boulevard to Garfield Avenue, with a noon lunch at Ferguson's. Residents welcomed the effort and the Kiwanis-sponsored troop plans periodic future cleanups with broader Scout involvement.

Ex Gov Merriam Celebrates 86th Birthday in San Marino
Former Iowa California governor Frank F. Merriam marked his 86th birthday with a dinner at the Eugene P. Consers home in San Marino. A 21 candle cake sparked gifts depicting public service episodes and a travelogue of pictures. Attending were Merriam’s daughter-in-law Hazel Merriam, Violet Beardsley, Max Livoni, and friends from Long Beach Pasadena and Glendale.

High School Band Will March In Rose Parade Tuesday
South Pasadena San Marino high school band will represent the city in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. Directed by R Graham the group includes 42 musicians a leader six majorettes and two banner carriers. They wear orange coats and caps white trousers and white shoes. Residents Injured In Auto Crash on Huntington Drive
Mr and Mrs Thomas Eggleston suffered minor injuries early Christmas morning when their car was struck on Huntington drive. Eggleston was turning left into Bradbury when a car owned and operated by Gordon W Ross of San Gabriel passed and sent both vehicles onto a residence lawn. Mrs Eggleston had a cut nose and Mr Eggleston a cut on his head.

Restrict Recreation at One Playground This Winter
San Marino will close three city playgrounds Stoneman Valentine and Carver until summer to reduce risks from early dusk bad weather and limited indoor space after school. Huntington remains open for after school activities with set hours including weekdays 3 30 to 4 30 and Saturday sessions. Carver follows vacation schedule this week.
