A decree from Caesar Augustus leads Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem for taxation. The birth occurs in a manger with shepherds alerted by angels who proclaim good tidings to all. Jesus grows in wisdom and favor with God and man.
Churches across the area present different Christmas carol services reflecting the season. The issue emphasizes holiday observances with front page focus on festive events and limited inside coverage of other news.
San Marino residents attend a city employees Christmas party with Santa and magicians in the auditorium. Churches schedule services through Friday and Christmas Day, including St. Edmund's pageant and carols, with Holy Communion at 8 am and Eucharist at 11 am.
Yvonne Bolitho from South Africa and Luis Facetti from Paraguay, inbound as American Field Service students at San Marino High School, enjoy their first American style Christmas with local families. They meet Mayor Harry W. Hitchcock and Mrs. Baugh, and tour the business district and decorated homes as the San Marino chapter promotes international understanding through the AFS program founded in 1947.
The Tribune staff rushes to meet the deadline as two pages of ads arrive. Editor Mac wakes to rally Maynard, Don, Curtis, John, Linny, Pete, Barbara, Betty, Laura and Marie and the team hurries to the back shop to finish the work before Christmas.

The Huntington Library and Art Galleries will be closed Friday and Saturday, December 24 and 25 for a two day Christmas holiday. Gardens and buildings will not be accessible during the closure.
Ankara native Zuley Ediger, last year’s AFS student at San Marino High, sends warm Turkish season’s greetings to San Marinans via the Tribune. She recalls a memorable year living with the Walter MacLaren family on Ridgeway Road and thanks readers for the weekly newspaper.
The Junior Friends of the San Marino Public Library plan a gala Christmas party in the library auditorium on Monday December 27 from 3 to 5 pm. Miss June Bayless and Miss Beverly Saunders will be guests of honor. After a brief meeting a new name for the group may be voted on. Saunders will read an original Christmas story by Lincoln Steffens for grades six through eight, followed by a carol fest and cake and punch. Membership stands at 47 active members.
San Marino shines with holiday decoration as streets light up for the Homes Contest. Residents decorate as traffic rises along St Albans Road and surrounding areas. Photographs of winners appear on pages 6 and 7.
The annual Chamber of Commerce contest named Frank Dessei as judge and announced winners from about 30 entries. First prize went to J. Thornton McCarthy at 2176 Adair Street for a Santa sleigh scene. second to B. A. Bannon at 1465 St Albans Road. third to P. M. Jebbia at 950 Rosalind Road.
Christmas Day observance closes the main office and all branches with no city delivery service except special delivery and perishable parcels. The holiday falls on Saturday, December 25, and all Post Office operations shut for the day.
