Mrs. William A. Martin, president of the San Mano school board, resigns after three years to take effect when her successor is appointed. She cites home duties and seven children along with Library board duties as the reason for stepping down.
San Marino backers push a creditable float in the Tournament of Roses parade to be held in Pasadena on January 1. The city’s third division float, between Altadena and Covina, is being crafted by Mrs. David Coleman, renowned for last year’s winning sweepstakes. The float is to be complimentary and not for prize. fundraising continues as subscriptions are sought to meet the required amount. Further details on the float’s motive will be released later.
A compact reflection urges returning to the core meaning of Christmas centering on the manger and the infant Jesus. The note contrasts secular wandering with faith focused on nativity.
City officials describe San Marino City Park as it evolves into a refined green space. Superintendent Armin Thurnber shows how the former Wilson lake bed, once nearly 20 acres, was reclaimed with 90,000 yards of soil to create a solid base for future plantings.
The San Marino Arcadia and Alhambra Realty Boards held their annual installation Monday evening December 19 at the Alhambra Elks Club. A large turnout of realtors heard talks on topics of interest to the profession.
Henry E. Huntington funded the Huntington Library and Art Gallery collecting rare volumes. Dr. Max Ferrand, the library director, says values have risen at least fourfold. About half the 175000 volumes are classified as rare, with a sizable portion occupying the rare book room.
The Pathfinders juvenile club held an event at 1521 Virginia Road hosted by Mrs. M. P. Simon. Coach Hamilton awarded football letters to twenty four of the thirty member squad for achievements in academics attendance and game participation. The evening included stories songs games and refreshments.
The San Marino chorus under Albert J. Adams will debut this season at the December 26 meeting of the Monday Evening Musical Club. The 8 o clock concert at South Pasadena high school auditorium features choral, quartet and organ music for the Christmas season and is free to the public.
A depositor committee led by Major Maurice Veronda, formed after the South Pasadena National Bank's receivership, reports most deposits have been paid. Funds advanced for expenses are mostly repaid, with 80 percent of deposits already satisfied and another 10 percent expected soon.
