San Marino Wins Top Voting Record in Los Angeles County
San Marino received a county scroll for achieving the highest voter turnout among Los Angeles County’s 45 incorporated cities. The ceremony in the County Supervisor’s Chambers honored 6,751 voters, 85.93 percent of registration, with praise for Mayor Clark E. Bell, Councilman Carson Ide, Supervisor Roger E. Jessup, and editor H. H. McCormick of The Tribune.

Santa’s Relative Fire Letter Highlights Lummis Glory
In December 1895 Charles F. Lummis wrote to Mrs. Howes of Los Angeles after a Christmas Day house fire, describing his little girl’s reaction to a Santa Claus relative. The letter is in the Huntington Library exhibit “A Century of California Literature,” with Lummis’ ties to Los Angeles and his roles as author editor and founder. The exhibit runs daily 1 to 4 30 except Mondays with Christmas closings.
