Titans win invitational hoops tourney beating South Pasadena 52 46
San Marino Titans kept their 1956 win streak with a tourney title at SMHS Gym. South Pasadena Tigers led by Cal Newcomer scored 18 but SM Titans with John Wagner and Bob Sommers led 13 apiece to a 52 46 final. Arcadia beat San Gabriel 53 23 for third. Fire Alarm Wakes Virginia Road Homes
Residents on Virginia Road near the San Marino Community Church were awakened at 4 45 a.m. when the church alarm system activated. Fire Chief Arthur P Hughes noted the system had air in it causing the loud response, and firefighters, police, and church officials worked about forty minutes to quiet it.

Dave Fiscus was named president of the San Marino Community Council at Monday night meeting. He succeeds Dr. B. L. Hyink with J. Gerald Ross as vice president Basil Reynolds as treasurer and Betty Thomas as secretary. The executive committee includes Thomas A. Batson Mrs Roy Maginnis Sidney H. Wall and Klass van de Weg. Local Attorney's Mother Dies in Mountain View Cemetery
Mrs. Harry R. Archbald, widow of a Superior Court Judge, died December 14 after illness. Graveside services were held December 17 at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. She lived in the area since 1904, aged 85, and is survived by son Malcolm Archbald, sister-in-law Bess Archbald, and two grandchildren. She belonged to Oneonta Congregational Church and aided PTA and child guidance work.

Jack Batson son of Mr and Mrs Tom Batson was named the outstanding scout of troop 355 and received a certificate from the Kiwanis Club. Four Fire Calls Answered by San Marino Firemen
San Marino firefighters responded to four calls Tuesday. At 10:14 a.m. a blaze in an electrical ballast box at 1110 Huntington Drive was extinguished. At 1:30 p.m. smoke from a short in a house bell at 1400 Park Place caused minor damage. At 4:55 p.m. a garage fire at 1842 Euclid started by boys playing, leaving a 2 by 3 foot roof hole. A cook stove fire at 2425 Lorain Road, caused by bacon grease, was under control on arrival.
