Three new San Marino School Board members were sworn in and quickly organized. Robert Gayl was elected president, Marnie Dam clerk, and Robert Reed joined several committees. Alumni Association Reaches All Corners of the Earth
San Marino’s SMAA connects former SMHS students worldwide in places including Italy, Paraguay, Indonesia, Australia, France, Scotland, England, Japan, Taiwan, Israel, and Switzerland. Founder Robert Reed says records and families help locate alumni for updates, and last year the group donated $30,000 to the school district while receiving letters of fond memories and updates from abroad. A sample Italian letter expresses joy from a former AFS student who left in 1979 and reflects on how much has changed since then.

Friends Book Shoppe Opens at San Marino Library
The Friends of the Library open a used bookstore in San Marino Public Library to raise funds. Run by volunteers, it will supplement the annual Book Fair, with profits directed to library needs. Hours are Monday noon to 8 pm, Thursday noon to 6 pm, and Saturday 11 am to 5 pm.

Huntington Middle School Mock Trial Team Competes in L A County
Sixteen Huntington Middle School students studied criminal law evidence and trial procedures from Sept 15 to Nov 30 under Claudia Brown. The first year team won rounds one through the quarter finals before a close semi final loss to Walter Dexter, the top team, in the L A County Mock Trial Competition.

San Marino Considers Business Improvement Districts
San Marino City Council approved up to 5000 dollars to form at least one Business Improvement District with cost sharing 50 50 between merchants on Huntington Drive and the Mission District. A merchants advisory committee will set district boundaries assessable amounts and the plan to boost business and tax revenues. Details Emerge in Attempted Murder Case in San Marino
San Marino resident Kath leen August faced a murder plot after district attorney charges were filed against Lanier Clayton 36. He stands accused of attempted murder and residential burglary linked to a scheme arranged by her late husband Richard August 41. Police say Clayton met August at a Pasadena hotel weeks earlier and received instructions to poison or kill Augusts wife, though initial poison attempts failed and the plan escalated to a home assault during which August drove Clayton to the couple’s house to commit the crime. The victim was wounded and rushed to emergency care.
