The council postponed action on ordinances affecting peddlers and building rules until January. City Attorney advised on disputed payment claims from Pasadena related to an disposal plant. Debate covered brick can construction, gas and oil renewal, and building inspections with decisions pushed to Page Ten.
Whitcomb Brougher of the First Baptist date will be guest at the Christmas meeting. Stoneman Patent ation to be held Tuesday afternoon at 12 o'clock. Dr Brougher will be praised for his excellence, with a large attendance expected. A musical program includes Miss Lucille Gett, and a Christmas story followed by tea. The board meeting will be December 17 at 12 o'clock.
John E. Martin, 22, of San Marino died instantly near Desallamandes Louisiana when his car lost control on a curve after high speed gravel. An unidentified hitchhiker survived with slight injuries as funeral services followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A late Sunday afternoon collision on Huntington Drive between St. Albans and Old Mill involved J. D. Cason of Pasadena and Leo O. Young of Los Angeles. Injured were Leo O. Young his 2 year old daughter Mary Lee Young Homer Cox and Katherine Jones. treated at Alhambra Health Center.
Dennis Shillam and his pet falcon Rex visit Hollywood sets to explain how the trained bird acts in the film The Crusades. Rex is controlled with talons taped to prevent harm and requires hooded handling by experts. Dennis, son of a former San Marino Tribune editor, promotes falconry, referencing Boy Scout and Britannica resources for beginners.
Final rites were held for Harry A. Colyer of 1730 Oak Grove Avenue at All Saints Episcopal Church with Dr. Leslie E. Learned officiating. Colyer, vice president of the First Trust and Savings Bank of Pasadena, died at Pasadena Hospital after ten days of illness. He rose from messenger boy to junior vice president and had led the Pasadena Clearing House Association since 1923. He leaves a widow and three children, plus two sisters and a brother. Funeral arrangements were handled by C. Hal Reynolds and John W. Eberle Mortuary.
A special in gathering for Christmas will be held all next week at the Stoneman School under the Stoneman P T A sponsorship. Mothers are urged to send toys, food and clothing to aid welfare work.
John L. Hart and Sam King headlined the annual South Pasadena High School football awards led by Coach Harry Swart. Hart won the Gordon Clark-G Matthews trophy for most useful player while King claimed the George Harris trophy as the most improved member. Hart is son of Mr and Mrs Frank Hart of 1619 West Drive.
San Marino announces job openings on the Metropolitan Water District. Commander Gus Jackson says the city’s labor quota is far from filled. Applications available by registering with City Clerk Harvey Joyce at City Hall Huntington Drive.
San Marino residents and officials joined the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association meeting in San Gabriel at the Grape Vine Cafe. About 250 members and guests attended, including Chief of Police Gene B. Woods and Lt. Glenn McClung, plus officers Jess Black F. E. Stokes Bill Beaver Perry Archer Leo Howell and Eddie Norwine.
Mrs Wallace Chadwick reports the Henry E Huntington P T A plans a Christmas party for schoolchildren. Each child brings a gift for a poor child and the event starts at 1 30 with a circle around the Christmas tree, carols, and a play by pupils. Rev Holland officiates.
San Marino police invite all local children to an open house on Saturday December 21 from 2 to 5 pm. Officers will demonstrate fingerprinting and crime-solving methods, with candy and apples for attendees. Exhibits include items from the Ivey extortion case and the typewriter and badge related to the Perry Archer incident. Chief Gene B Woods hopes for a large turnout to share Christmas greetings.
Troop Three San Marino Scouts plant a sycamore at Camp Huntington at 4 30 p m Saturday December 7 1935. Scoutmaster Herr presents the tree to Skipper Robinson of the Boy Scout staff who accepts for the council. Reed Ringstrom leads the planting as Jerome Case and Dr George Ringstrom observe. Parents and Scouts share a campfire and picnic supper after.
San Marino Girl Scout Troop 11 held an investiture service for eight girls who passed their tenderfoot tests and received pins under Mrs. W. H. Schoonmaker. The group meets Tuesdays at 3 30 and invites interested girls to attend. Color guard members included Jane Egge Patricia Whittemore Virginia Harper and Patsy Patterson.
United States Senator Gerald P. Nye of North Dakota and chair of the munitions investigating committee will lecture on Friday evening December 20 at 8:00 in the Shakespeare clubhouse Pasadena on War Munitions and Neutrality. He will cover munitions inquiry and proposed neutrality measures to keep America from war. The talk is sponsored by the Pasadena Peace Council and the Pasadena branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Tickets are sold at Vroman’s Book Store and the Brown Shop Pasadena with no reserve seats.
Twelve San Marino organizations met at Huntington School to discuss a possible community center. While several groups endorsed a clubhouse, most reps urged against an elaborate auditorium and costs. Dee McConnell chaired. a committee will collect cost figures for a city council discussion.
As we go to press the Hoeppel trial for the alleged attempted sale of a West Point appointment continues in Washington. Congressman John Hoeppel denies any connection with the alleged transaction.
Richard Allen of Los Angeles will discuss Christmas flower arrangements at the San Marino Garden Club meeting at 10 30 Tuesday morning December 17. The gathering will be at Mrs George W Van Vorst’s 1606 Virginia Road. An 9 30 class by Mrs L E Shepard will precede the talk and a plant exchange is planned under Mrs Norman B Clark. The group will skip informal luncheons unless a garden tour follows.
