San Marino Chinese Club founded in 1979 by local doctors to help immigrants adapt, translate, and participate in schools and city life. Today the club has about 360 members, sponsors a Chinese school renting 20 classrooms from Huntington Intermediate School, and aims to foster multicultural understanding in the city.
San Marino Police and Fire Departments join the Toys for Tots drive inviting residents to drop off new unwrapped toys at the police station lobby open 24 hours. Station located at 2200 Huntington Dr with entrance on San Marino Avenue.
Bank of America partners with the United States Marine Corps Reserve for the 44th Toys for Tots campaign. The San Marino branch at 2424 Huntington Dr will host collection canisters through December 20, inviting customers to donate new unwrapped toys at any of California’s 850 plus branches to help ensure many needy children have a gift on Christmas morning.
Bliss Keeler Realtors along with the San Marino Chamber of Commerce American Cablevision and Foton 2 Hour Photo Store unite for Share the Spirit of the Holidays. Children visit Santa Saturday Dec 14 from 10 to noon at the Little Christmas House corner Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue. Free photos and coloring books are offered. Foton donates film and development at 2347 Huntington Dr. American Cablevision will televise the chats on Channel 6 during the pre Christmas weeks. If rain, the event moves to Bliss Keeler’s San Marino office at 2486 Huntington Dr.
The second annual three day shopping extravaganza benefiting the San Marino Schools Foundation and the San Marino Area Chapter of the AFS Intercultural Program realized a total profit of $27,000, up $10,000 from last year. Chairman Kathi Coombs credits the community and committee for overwhelming support.
San Marino Public Library will be closed all day on Saturday December 14 for ceiling painting in the main room. Materials due on December 14 may be returned by December 16 with no overdue charges. Interior painting will occur the week of December 16 with no further closures expected.

The San Marino Board of Education swore in Gayl Reed and Rutherford for four and two year terms as Mary Snaer and Fritz Seares exit. Nancy Bartlett was unanimously elected president for 1991 92 with Gayl as vice president and Rutherford as clerk. Bartlett and new board members plan to attend the California School Board Association meeting in December and review the district budget amid a state deficit.
