Garrett Caps Two Honors for Stanford Football Star
Stanford quarterback Bobby Garrett, the standout of the 1953 season, won the W. J. Voit Memorial Football Trophy after leading the nation in passes and scoring, helping Stanford contend for the Pacific Coast Conference title. He completed 118 of 205 passes for 1637 yards with 17 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions in ten games, and a 57.6 percent completion rate. He also led in interceptions with nine and starred on defense, with key upsets including a 21-20 win over UCLA and a late 21-20 victory over USC. The ceremonies for the award were held at a luncheon in South Pasadena with Masons from San Marino Lodge and Grand Lodge attending a formal temple dedication processional at Huntington Drive.

Friends Mourn McAfee Passing
Final rites for Marion Wallace McAfee were held at Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel with Rev. Crawford V. Bron officiating. McAfee, born in Quincy, lived in California since 1934, retired in 1939 after a long career at Union Oil, and headed the local rationing board during the war. He is survived by wife Alice and son Dickerson.

Final Rites for Long-Time South Pasadena Resident
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Helen P. Vogelsang at 10:30 am Saturday in South Pasadena at Turner Stevens and Eggleston chapel. Interment was private. A San Francisco native, she lived in the area 25 years and died December 3. Surviving husband Harry C. Vogelsang of 2560 Monterey Road, daughter Marilyn Jane, son William E., brother J A Mann, and three grandchildren.
