Residents around the Sunny area between Huntington Drive and San Gabriel Duarte Road request annexation for better service. City council defers adding districts citing tax revenue and cost of upgrading to current standards, influenced by county ruling on out of district school services and bus access.
A local committee appointed by the city mulls a proposed site for a library. Edwards and Wildey Co subdividers present the offer as the city weighs options amid community interest.
The first meeting of committees organizing a Boy Scout float themed Follow the Eagle met at the Scout cabin. The $1000 budget will be funded by public donations via circular letters with pledge slips and return envelopes. J. C. Bennet of Pasadena may supervise the float, built by the boys, for the parade’s Boy Scout division.
The city school reopened Monday with few absentees after a flu outbreak last week that kept about eighty pupils and some staff away. Authorities closed the school Tuesday to help stamp out the illness, and by week’s end the grammar school resumed normal attendance with no fatalities reported. Principal Mr. Neher, who had flu, returned to duties.
The City of San Marino declines annexation applications from Sunnyslope and adjacent Sunnyslope San Pasqual area. Mayor William Lacy says the city aims to be neighborly, but council cannot justify taxing existing residents to fund expansion. Expenditure to raise nearby areas to city standards outweighs anticipated revenue.
