Carver Named New Board of Education Member

K L Carver, of 1365 St Albans Drive, chosen by the city Board of Education to fill the vacancy caused by the death of B F Mansfield. His appointment, ratified by H S Upjohn, takes effect at the Tuesday meeting and lasts until the spring election. Carver, a California native with three years in San Marino, is a father of two and has long kept in touch with local school issues. He attended Los Angeles High School and Pomona College, and is a member of the Optimist Club of Los Angeles and Flintridge Country Club. He serves on the boards of Seaboard National Bank and Western Dairy Products Company.

Robber Mellin Captured After Stolen Bank Necklace and Watch

Charles Stewart Mellin entered homes on Dear and Adair in Los Angeles area, stealing a child's bank and a necklace before fleeing to Alhambra. An officer pursued, Mellin fired twice, then was caught at Kendall Drive, Alhambra. He is an ex convict with multiple Los Angeles and Altadena cases pending.

New San Marino American Legion Post Elects Officers

San Marino Post No 239 of the American Legion held its organizational meeting at Lincoln Hall to elect a one year term slate led by Col. C. C. Stanley as commander and Stuart I Williams as first vice commander. Nominating committee members include N. M. Murray C. M. Birney Carton B Tibbetts and C N Castrucio. 103 signatures on the charter roll will become charter members upon permanent charter approval. A December 15 meeting will appoint adjutant treasurer historian chaplain and standing committee chairs.

Woman Struck Near City Hall After Church Visit

Vesta Hoke of Pasadena alleged a man struck her on Oak Knoll Avenue after alighting a Monrovia bus near City Hall San Marino. She reported being followed and assaulted with rocks while walking toward Virginia Road. a bystander scared the attacker away. Details continue on page six.

Chief Parker Warns Against Door-to-Door Subscriptions

San Marino residents are warned that seven or eight men go from door to door claiming police sanction for college subscription sales. Chief Ben Parker states no such sanction exists and advises residents to ignore the appeals, noting crimes are sometimes planned and carried out after such calls.

Rose Carnival Queen to Lead January Tournament Float

Mary Lou Waddell of San Marino named as queen of the Rose Carnival will be attended by six young women on the official tournament float January first. Miss Fannie Arnold is among residents contributing donations to involve many in the event rather than leave responsibility to a few.
