Halt City Salaries Consume Majority of City Revenue

Halt City disbursement records show salaries and wages at about half of total expenditures from the 1957 58 audit with a $543 281 revenue total and $1 120 939 in net spending. Public safety dominates the salary bill with police at $161 230 and fire at $138 194. general government salaries total $48 587, while recreation salaries were eliminated after transfer to San Marino Unified School District.

Raleigh Nelson Services Held

Funeral services were held November 24 for Raleigh P. Nelson of Darby road a 14 year resident. He died November 20 at a Los Angeles hospital. He was a 32nd degree Mason a member of San Antonio Lodge F and AM 694 Bell California and Los Angeles Consistory El Bakal Shrine and American Legion Post 323 East Los Angeles. Survived by widow two daughters mother brother and sister.

Del Mar Lot Purchased for 60 000 Investment by Attorney Hurley

Clayton M. Hurley of Los Angeles bought the southwest corner lot on Del Mar facing Huntington drive and the Congregational Church for about 60 000. The sale was handled by Charles E Franz Real Estate Company. Hurley said the property was purchased strictly as an investment.

Chest To Support Youth Clubs

Chest funds support youth character-building groups including Girl Scouts Boy Scouts YMCA and YWCA by 55.2 percent of its budget. These groups operate with volunteer help offering healthful training and recreation in homes schools churches and parks.

Next week marks the 18th annual local commemoration of the Bill of Rights. Under a proclamation signed by Mayor Carson Ide, the city will celebrate December 9 to 15 as Bill of Rights Week. This year is the 167th anniversary of the ratification on December 15, 1791.

Pamela Prather Rose Queen at Tournament of Roses

Pamela Prather of La Mirada Avenue was named Rose Queen for the 70th Tournament of Roses. She will be feted at the Queen's Breakfast and later inducted by Tournament President Stanley K. Brown at the Coronation and Ball in Pasadena. The 19 year old Pasadena City College student plans to pursue social work and complete studies at San Jose State College.

Postmaster Eugene Walker reports postal receipts up 30 percent in November to 20533.77 dollars compared with last year's 15894.14. A similar 37 percent rise was noted in October receipts.

San Marino High School players Dane Bill Redell Doug Donath and Rich Merrill earned All San Gabriel Valley honors with Redell first team Merrill second team and Donath third team Coach Victor Schwenke was named Valley Coach of the Year. Schwenke has a 34 4 1 league CIF record since 1954 and CIF crowns in 1955 and 1957.

Funeral services held Monday for Rev Clarence Hensel

The Rev Clarence Wellington Hensel father of William Heideman of Roanoke road died in Los Angeles Friday November 28 one day after his 86th birthday He had served 31 years with the Hollenbeck Home for the Aged in Los Angeles Before 1923 he founded the first Community Chest west of the Rockies in San Diego He leaves two daughters and eleven grandchildren.
