San Marino Man Dies Chasing Burglary Suspect

Edward A. Breitkreutz, prominent San Marino resident and volunteer, died of a heart attack Friday while pursuing burglars in his mother's backyard on Wilson Avenue. Police pursued suspects, with one arrested. the district attorney later declined charges. Breitkreutz is survived by his wife, mother, brother, and two nieces. Services were held in Alhambra and burial in San Gabriel Cemetery. Donations were requested to the Heart Fund.

Bryant Heads SG Valley Campaign For Younger

California Attorney General candidate Evelle Younger taps Daniel W. Bryant to chair the 61st Assembly District campaign in the San Gabriel Valley. San Marino Receives 13500 From State Sales Taxes

San Marino earned 13 500 as its share of August sales and use tax receipts distributed by the state Board of Equalization. The board allocated 148 million statewide to California cities and counties with cities receiving 96.55 million and counties 16.45 million. Local transportation funds accounted for 28.25 million, while only 1.25 percent of the total tax goes to local communities and 4.75 percent to the state.

San Marino Schools Readying for 1978-79 Term

After a hectic summer of reorganization debates and Proposition 13 budget limits, San Marino schools plan to open September 11. Superintendent Walter Dingus notes enrollment will drop 2.5 percent to 3322 for 1978-79 across three elementary schools, one intermediate, one high school, with new staff and delayed renovations. New teachers include John Herren, Margaret Dampier, Bob Lutes, Candido Sesma, Sandra Brodey, June Hall, and Marc Schramm. campus orientation runs Sept 5–8 followed by certificated staff meetings.

San Marino costs lower in 1967 dollars says city official

City Manager Charles Martin released a 10 year budget summary showing San Marino now spends less in 1967 dollars than in 1967 for the same services. He notes inflation has raised costs while base spending remains lower, with a $950000 reserve and a projected 40 percent cut in 1978 79 due to Proposition 13 lawsuits.
