The San Marino Community Chest backs a 56 050 budget for Huntington After-School Center funds and other grants as donors raise over 7500. Campaign kicks off September 25 with 22 local organizations pledged support and attention to fund-raising, while transfers affect campaign leadership.
San Marino City Council voted against Assembly Bill 825 requiring public officers to file annual statements of investments including ownership over 10 000. The bill cleared the Senate and heads to Governor Reagan for signature. Two burglaries last week netted over 800 dollars in TV and hi fi gear from B A Youngblood on Alpine and Balfour on Lorain.
The third year water show runs tonight at 8:30 p.m. at the High School pool under Mrs. Daniel Ross. Children imagine animals from flea to donkey as Kathy Sherkus and Canice Evans star with a cast including Carolyn Meskell Stephanie Ross Peggy Lemain Jennifer Woodward Susan Hinkley Elizabeth Whitehead and adult swimmers Verla Sorenssen Sally Winebrunner Derrie Ross plus San Marino pool staff. Local swimmers and divers add events to boost interest.
San Marino residents are invited to an afternoon of free swimming at the high school pool on Labor Day from 2 to 5 p.m. Towels provided. no locker service. Regular swims continue to Sept 7, daily 2 to 5 p.m. Gym opens 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays until Sept 15. Carver and Stoneman playgrounds 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until school opening. Huntington closed for construction. All playgrounds closed on Labor Day.
San Marino High School details the Letterman's Club history from its 1960 peak to decline and revival in 1966 67 under Athletic Commissioner Stu Reese and adviser Michael McNamee. A San Marino Republican Women’s Club board meeting on August 19 outlined a busy fall schedule. The picnic in the Park is set for September 23 with Colonel Curtis B. Dall as guest speaker. Delegation of about 75 members will attend the California State Convention in Anaheim September 17 and 18. San Marino boasts the largest Women’s Republican Club membership in the nation.
San Marino Rotarians will host Assemblyman John L. E. Bud Collier at the noon meeting at Woody and Eddy’s. Collier, representing the 54th Assembly District since 1946, is known as a staunch conservative and has chaired key committees in Sacramento.
