Belt Retires After Forty Nine Years With Pacific Electric
C H Belt P E Official retires Monday from long service with Pacific Electric Railway. A longtime Whittier resident since 1926 Belt rose from conductor to general superintendent of freight service and recalls driving the famed Old 250 at 85 mph. He began June 13 1903 and was hired at 18 cents an hour, with a career spanning the system’s early days through its later years. He will leave after nearly five decades with the company, leaving a legacy tied to PE’s red cars and rapid service.

Survived by six daughters, four sons, a stepson, 28 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
