San Marino High School hosts a Southern California Open Basketball Championship game for the US Olympic Fund. Broadway Federal battles Leo Corbosiero State Mutual Cagers on Friday August 28 at 7 p.m. Stars include Charlie Hardnett Bobby Sims and Bob Blue. Jeff Cartwright and Sam Key headline for Mutual.

Two San Gabriel women were injured when Barbara M. Hart 72 and Edelmira P. Brandon 50 were struck from the rear by a van driven by Clarence W. Youngberg 22 of Monrovia on Huntington Drive near Los Robles. Hart suffered leg injuries and Brandon a head injury as their car began to turn onto the service road. both were taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment.
Mary A. McKee 18 suffered knee injuries when a car driven by Francis J. Hootren 19 left Huntington Drive and struck a curb at Palomar. McKee was rushed to San Gabriel Community Hospital for treatment.
A chamber board meeting discussed a resident letter urging study of a senior center for games, exercise and social activities. The writer cited Glendale and Pasadena centers and suggested space from Lacy Park and possible use of a Scout house room. Residents were asked to mail letters to the chamber office.
Richard F. Read is named manager of Gibraltar Savings and Loan Association's San Marino San Gabriel Valley Regional Branch. He is an assistant vice president and former loan department supervisor, a UC LA graduate from California, who will reside in San Marino with wife Marilyn teaching in Valentine School this fall. Patricia Barnwell Dunn is introduced as a 17 year San Marino resident. The new office opened Sept 21 in temporary quarters at 2477 Huntington Drive San Marino with a permanent building planned at 2295 Huntington Drive on the site of Pierre's restaurant.
The Old Mill Committee led by Thomas Batson reports a tentative offer from the California Historical Society to use the landmark. The society considers the San Marino site for its Southern California headquarters and estimates $8000 to $16000 to prepare the Old Mill. Pasadena Junior League shows interest, with HQ at Huntington-Sheraton Hotel. A third offer aims to landscape the grounds.
Mr and Mrs E Stanto Turner longtime San Marin residents marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The couple, honored Aug 22 by their children Stanton A Turner and Mrs Harold J Wardell, spent decades in the Philippines with the YMCA. Turner led YMCA work, endured Santo Tomas imprisonment, aided postwar rebuilding, and helped fund a Manila youth center.
The San Marino Public Library displays a restored portrait of General George S. Patton donated by Mrs. Russell Richardson. A new biography, Before the Colon Fade, by Fred Ayér Jr., adds an affectionate view of Patton, who led U S troops in North Africa and commanded the Third Army in France and Germany. The library also lists Portrait of Patton by Harry Hodges Semmes and Patton’s War As I Knew It.
Mrs. Alinda MacLeod of Los Angeles Trade Tech College and a Sycamore mare will discuss vocational education on Salem Fact curl programs to be shown August 3 from 7 to 7 30 p m on Chesed 7.
School doors reopen on September 14 for over 3500 students as summer repairs near completion and supplies arrive. New students must show polio vaccine evidence before entry, with exemption possible via written statement. Elementary offices operate Sept 1–11, high school already open with counselors available.
Mission area reports show five signs and a bronze plaque stolen from two buildings in the 2400 block of Mission Street. Edward Jaffarian and W. J. Escherich Jr. report multiple sign losses. earlier thefts include an outside light fixture valued at 35 dollars. City Council will hold a public hearing September 30 on sidewalk projects along Pasqualito west of El Molino Avenue. Work on other walkways proceeds.
The City Council approved a 1964-65 budget of 1,553,934 dollars and set a tax rate of 1.57 for the coming year. No action was taken on proposed salary schedule increases for city employees, to be decided at the September 10 meeting.

William Wilson Jr a Pasadena realtor and civic leader died Friday at 56 after a five month illness. Services were held Monday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena. He served as president of the William Wilson Company and held numerous civic roles including Pasadena Chamber of Commerce president and Navy League chairman. He is survived by his wife two sons a daughter and a sister. Contributions may be made to local cancer funds or charities.
