Oil executive explains work of industry in smog control
D K Harger of Standard Oil California El Segundo refinery spoke to San Marino Rotary and Ants clubs about smog. He argued that smog is weather related, not simply smoke and fog, and that sulfur oxides and particulate matter are not major contributors. Masonic Rites Held Friday For Henderson
Masonic funeral services for John Albert Henderson of this city were conducted Friday in the San Marino Masonic temple by Worshipful Master Ralph Gorman. He died August 16 and had lived in Southern California for 50 years. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. He was a founder and treasurer of the foundation since 1944 and member of multiple Masonic and civic groups. Surviving are his widow Marion, two daughters Joan and Joyce, a brother James C. Henderson, and a sister Evelyn Reithner.

Fire Holds Up Bodrero Family Home On Buena Vista
A San Marino family faced a devastating upstairs fire at 495 Buena Vista Tuesday evening. Estimated damage is $12,000 with the blaze confined mainly to the master bedroom and second floor, but smoke and heat harmed most clothing and belongings. The Bodrero family, including children Vicky John Alexa, evacuated safely with help from neighbors as the fire department suppressed the flames.

Civil Defense Sirens Installed in San Marino

Water District Tax Rate Reduced Again
The Metropolitan Water District board cut the tax rate from 23 cents to 21 cents per 100 of assessed valuation for 1955 56. The rate’s peak in 1945 46 was 50 cents. reductions since then have lowered it to 21 1/2 cents. Of the 21 1/2 cent rate, 13 cents service outstanding Colorado River aqueduct bonds and 8 cents cover federal and other obligations. Operating expenses are paid from water revenues.
