Checks totaling the Kathy Fiscus Rescue Fund payments were mailed to workers this week per Mayor Clark E. Bell. The fund of 44139.20 funded distributions to 132 workers, with 767.37 reserved for future claims, and remaining amounts distributed among identified workers and donors with specified bequests.
Mrs Effie V Fisher mother of Mrs Viola Polley of San Marino died at her Los Angeles home on August 20 after 63 years in California. Survived by husband John W Fisher two daughters two sons a mother five sisters three brothers seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services conducted August 23 at Little Stone Church Turner Stevens Turner Alhambra with interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
At a Rotary meeting L D Hanks of Pacific Electric urged modernizing Huntington Drive with bus service to increase frequency beyond current train schedules and end freight hauling by rail. He said fares need not rise, profits would come from highway taxes and higher efficiency buses achieving about four miles per gallon.
The housing expeditor's office announces no salary or rent surveys due to lack of federal funds. Field work in Pasadena area cities is canceled unless a House Senate budget compromise occurs within two weeks. The rent control board remains unchanged as a volunteer group continuing rent adjustments.

Rotary Club invites families to Sunday football at Lacy Park featuring the L.A. Dons during a public event announced for September 25. The club encourages attendees to bring a boy if possible and participate in the community gathering.
Oltmans Construction Company has won the general contract to enlarge the San Marino Branch of Security First National Bank. J. O. Oltmans, president, resides in San Marino. Weber Showcase and Fixture Company will supply fixtures. Work begins today with remodeling of a west storeroom for note and collection departments, escrow booths, a new safe deposit area, officers platform, and archways to connect with the existing banking room. Architect Vernon W. Houghton designed the new frontage matching the branch front. A writing room and rear entry to the parking lot will be added.
Postal officials report only two business owners submitted proposals for a larger site near City Hall. Both bids and recommendations have been sent to Washington for review and a definite decision is not expected soon.
