Red Cross San Marino Branch Announces Labor Day Closure

The San Marino branch will close on Labor Day for a weekend vacation. Normal operations resume Thursday. Volunteers and dressings are still needed, with local head at 3400 Monterey Road seeking women with time to help.

War Chest Names Residents to Executive Posts in Pasadena and LA

Five San Marinans were named to executive positions in the Pasadena and Los Angeles War Chests as part of preparations for a War Chest appeal supporting 133 causes including 95 Community Chest agencies. Mrs. Hancock Banning Jr. was named chairman of the advance gift division for the second year, with Vernon M. Brydolf as president. A Los Angeles area committee includes Carleton Tibbetts, Fred W. Wilkins, W. A. DeRidder and J. C. Mullaney. Harvey S. Mudd announced the effort to back labor in major industries and support War Chest management plans.

Two Accidents Damage Cars Injure One

Last week two traffic collisions caused minor damage to cars and injured one person. Clifford Cofer, a San Marino street department employee, was struck by a car driven by Bertha Baird while painting a street sign on Huntington Drive. doctors reported a sprained knee, a broken left thumb and a bruised chest. In a separate crash on Wilson Avenue Geneva Inez McCarthy of Alhambra collided with a vehicle driven by James L Warren of Los Angeles. both cars sustained minor damage.

GOP Leaders Organize 12th District Campaign Committee

Roy O. Day announces the 12th District Congressional committee with Roy P. Crocker as chair and Earl Adams as financial officer and Harold Lutz as treasurer. Members include William M. Metropolitan Water District Sets 1944 45 Tax Rate

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California approved maintaining the 48 cent tax rate per $100 of assessed value for 1944 45. Five cents funds operations and maintenance, while 43 cents covers interest and amortization on aqueduct bonds. San Marino to Open Fall Term September 11

San Marino schools announced the fall term will start Monday September 11 with a full day of classes beginning at 9 am. Lee B. Davis Breaks Back in Diving Accident

Lee B. Davis 16 suffered a fractured spine and dislocated neck in a diving accident at Corona del Mar. He remained hospitalized at Orange’s Saint Joseph's hospital with improved condition and will receive visitors starting Sunday. Lois F Jenkins Services Held

Private funeral services for Lois F. Jenkins, 1115 Roanoke Road, who died Friday after a long illness, were held Monday at Turner Stevens and Eggles ton Chapel in South Pasadena, with entombment in Rose Hills Mausoleum. A Los Angeles native, she lived in Southern California all her life and belonged to the San Marino and South Pasadena Woman's Clubs, and was active in the South Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Surviving are husband Howard H. Jenkins, daughters Kathryn Jenkins of San Marino and Eleanor H. Lambert of Honolulu, and brother William A. Johnson of San Marino.

State Chamber names Shaw to committee on surplus disposal
