A public library in San Merino relocates from Huntington Drive to a new address in California. The move affects patrons with updated access and services.
The San Marino City Council and residents oppose a proposed 150 million dollar Los County bond issue planned for the November ballot. They argue funds should come as annual taxes for county roads and highways, not a large lump sum with unclear local benefits. They urge fiscal restraint and question justification for the massive debt.

Prepared by parties, the ballots show early voting practices and the shift to Australian official ballots by the late 1880s. The display, loaned by Dr. William B. Munro, runs daily 1 to 4 30 p m through September except Mondays.
The All-City Championship Swimming Meet co sponsored by the San Marino Kiwanis Club and the San Marino Recreation Department takes place Saturday August 25 with preliminaries at 9 a.m. and finals at 1 p.m. Swimmers race in 20 events across eight age groups with 18 heats to identify the top swimmers. Kiwanis officials including Stu Cypherd Brad Millikan Dr Elmer Gotfredson Harry Carson Alfred Allen Dr Jack Hackney Byron Covey Gerald Bowman and Josephine Stone will oversee time trials and the clerk of the course duties.
The San Marino junior tennis championship for youths opens September 4 to 6 at the high school courts. Events include singles divisions 18, 15, 12 and mixed doubles 18 and 15. Entries with fee are due by August 29 at the recreation department office in City Hall. blanks available at the Huntington recreation center and Carver High School.
Mrs Edith Sears a former city resident and prominent Republican worker is appointed to the reception center committee for the Republican State Central Reception Center in San Francisco during the convention this week.
Funeral services for Frederick Schultz of Robin Road were held at 11 a.m. in Memory Chapel Pasadena officiated by Dr. James Henry Hutchins. Schultz, born in New York City, lived in San Marino the last six years and was a retired YMCA physical director with ties to several organizations. He leaves a wife Irma A a son Dr. Granville Schultz a daughter Mrs Theodore Wertime a brother Frank Schultz a sister Mrs Amelia Raab and six grandchildren. Pasadena Masonic lodge officers conducted the burial ritual at San Gabriel Cemetery.
The San Marino City Council approved a 998 215 44 budget for 1956 57 funded by a 1 57 per 100 assessment. The plan includes a 97 327 60 library allocation and notes the citizenship requirement that led to three seniors being denied diplomas for not meeting the standard.
Sixteen students and four adult sponsors from San Marino High School toured San Marino Italy as goodwill ambassadors. They enjoyed royal reception by the Captain Regents and a banquet at a castle with 15th century hospitality, while local officials provided official tours and gifts.
Miss Ethel M. Robinson 79 longtime Santa Monica educator and administrator died August 17 after a long illness. Born in Yorkshire England she came to California in 1890 with her parents and later served as vice principal and dean of girls at Santa Monica High School and taught mathematics. A recreation hall at the campus is named for her. she also taught at Holmby College and left two brothers George and Edward plus several nieces and nephews.
Pasadena Realtor reports San Marino real estate transfers were steady in July. Fifty five transfers were recorded in July 1956 versus four in July of the previous year, with July totals lower than June.
