City Council Sets 1945 46 Tax Rate
San Marino’s City Council set the 1945 46 tax rate at 1.13 dollars, up two cents from last year, with a 50 cent Metropolitan Water tax up two cents but offset by a five cent cut in the district rate. Huntington Library to Close Two Months for Renovations

Cmdr. John C. Hazeltine USNR received the Commendation Ribbon from Fleet Admiral Nimitz for outstanding repair work at a South Pacific base. From Feb 1 to Sep 29, 1944 he directed and supervised repairs to many combat vessels ensuring rapid return to service. Local Teacher Directs Fiesta Play On San Gabriel Mission Grounds
Cora Montgomery, teacher of dramatics and literature at Huntington School, writes and directs The Bells of San Gabriel to be staged September 7 8 and 9 on the San Gabriel Mission grounds. County Plans Drainage For Local Area

Williams Receives Bronze Star Medal for Belgium Action
Robert D. Williams, son of Mr and Mrs Robert W Williams, formerly of the city now Bryn Mawr Pa, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and citation for heroic action in Belgium on 17 December 1944. While with the 168th Engineer Combat Battalion he and a companion procured ammunition from an active enemy dump at Bourcy under heavy fire. They then returned to the supply point through shell fire showing outstanding devotion to duty. Entered service from Massachusetts.
