San Marino rises to 56th among 76 Los Angeles County cities with 13 887 residents on July 1, up 229 from the April 1960 census. The area reports 72 new homes since 1960, total houses now 4327, while Los Angeles County totals reach 6 743 220, up 208 684 (11.6 percent).

Headquarters For GOP To Open Monday In San Marino

A San Marino Republican HQ will open Monday August 24 at 2512 Huntington Drive in the former Hostess Shop building. Volunteers from Youth for Goldwater prepared the site to provide residents with literature on Republican congressmen senators and Barry Goldwater. City to Set Tax Rate Monday in San Marino

San Marino officials plan a special meeting on Monday August 24 at 5 30 p m to study and adopt next year s budget projected at 1 586 092 up from 1 461 805 in 1963 65 If adopted as is the tax rate would rise nearly 12 cents per 100 assessed value to 1 But City Manager Charles E tin plans to seek deletions that could cut the increase to about 532 cents The current rate has been 1 51 for four years The change aims to offset a 108 210 drop in assessed value and fund proposed city employee raises including general salary hikes and police fire increases

San Marino Band Officers Raise Funds with Community Gifts

Council Approves Stoneman Area Sidewalk Plan

The City Council approved a Stoneman PTA proposal to improve safety for students walking to Stoneman School. The plan includes sidewalk installation on Pasqualito south parkway, from El Molino Place to the reservoir, relocates crosswalks, removes parking to improve sight lines, and trims ivy and hedges along the parkway.

One Record Broken At SM Swim Meet

At the All-City Championship Swim Meet held at the Community Pool Eddie Dougherty a San Marino High School freshman broke the 50 yard breaststroke record for boys 13 and 14 with a 37.8. The previous mark was 338.5 set by Doug Jensen. Several high point winners were honored for consistent top scores across events.

Travel Service Burglaries Hit San Marino Store

The San Marino Travel Service reports its second robbery in under three weeks at 2427 Huntington Drive. Thieves removed two large signs from the front, one reading San Marino Travel Service and the other a travelling ship. The incident follows another burglary at SM stores on July 28 with no loss reported. An employee comments they fear further intrusions.

Red Cross Water Safety Program Reaches 1,000 San Marino Youths

The fifth and final session of the Red Cross water safety program at the San Marino high school pool has enrolled well over 1,000 youngsters this summer.
