Metropolitan Water District Maintains Tax Rate for 1942 43
The Metropolitan Water District board on Friday August 14 approved a tax rate of 48 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation for the 1942 43 fiscal year. The rate remains unchanged from last year to cover operation maintenance costs and fixed bond charges for the Colorado River Aqueduct. The Finance Committee led by Director John R. Richards noted war precautions and trimmed costs in other departments to keep the basic tax rate steady.

San Marino Play School closes with vibrant Huntington event
San Marino's seventh annual play school concluded with about 180 attendees at Huntington School. The lower field hosted novelty games and relays led by playground director William Renison with helpers Vera Wickert Merle Butterbaugh and Robert Stichter. Ribbons awarded to top three in each event. An 11 o'clock auditorium performance of The Old Sleuth directed by Miss Wickert featured cast including Al Lang Sykes Charlie Eric Gschwind Benny Johnny Knoeppel Louise Knoeppel and others. Ice cream bars donated by the Huntington PTA followed. The playground remains open 9 to 6 weekdays and 9 to 5 Saturdays through summer.
