At the San Marino City Council meeting, Rotary Club representative Lee Starkey proposed a permanent concrete bandstand in Lacy Park. The plan surfaces amid council discussion on park improvements and community events.
The San Marino Unified School District projects a 7.14 million dollar budget that balances on paper through deficit funding by trimming last year's contingency by 40000. Superintendent David Brown and Assistant Superintendent Terry Dellinger noted the need for state action, while the board discussed a driving school contract, insurance policy review, and shifting Veterans Day. A proposed permanent concert venue for the Park was debated, with two fundraiser concerts approved for September 17 and October 1. The council also eyed a larger park structure and denied overhauls to video game moratorium and tennis court windscreens, while considering fire resistant roofing for new homes following Anaheim fire concerns.
James E. Ludlam and Samuel J. Tibbetts head a slate of regional executives named to the Hospital Council of Southern California for 1982-83. Ludlam, a 41-year hospital law veteran, serves on United Way and Good Hope Medical Foundation boards. Tibbetts, president of Lutheran Hospital Society, becomes chairman of Health Network of America, guiding a seven-hospital system with decades of health care leadership and ties to multiple regional health initiatives.
Carmen Elardo topped 18 000 district agents to win the President's Trophy at Prudential's International Business Conference in Maui. Since moving from Uniontown to California in 1957 he has helped San Gabriel Valley residents and businesses secure nearly 22 million in protection. He and his wife La Vere reside on Sheffield Road. Dr Rory Shulman moves his chiropractic practice to San Marino Chiropractic on Huntington Drive. He is a Pasadena College of Chiropractic 1975 graduate and Sigma Chi Psi member. Dr Kenneth Martin is elected San Gabriel Valley Chiropractic Society director for 1982 83, with new officers installed at a San Gabriel dinner dance. The society is part of the Los Angeles County Chiropractic Society, representing over 1,500 doctors. Martin runs an office on Huntington Drive.
Larry Chaconas and Lee Starkey announce the second annual San Marino Back-to-School promotion with window banners September 2 to 6. Participating stores provide registration forms for a bicycle drawing Friday September 17 at Jurgensen's Market. winners notified if absent. The Tribune plans an eight-page Back-To-School tabloid in the September 2 issue.
Ted Hoffman, general manager of Pioneer Video at Carson, leads a full production laser video disc facility. The 2 inch discs hold hours of content, read by a helium neon laser, with two audio channels and two language tracks. Production upgrades include automated techniques, cleanroom molding, and 28 billion bits per side. Prices range 18 to 60 dollars with future plans for educational uses, government storage, and larger musical releases.
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce invites business people and residents to its monthly meeting on Monday August 23 at noon. The gathering will be held in the council chambers of City Hall.
Visiting Austrian students Erwin Kilbertus Rudi Posawetz and Erich Wiesner are hosted by Mayor Lynn Reitnouer and her wife in San Marino. They study at USC Medical School observe local doctors at Huntington Memorial Hospital and visit cultural sites. The Reitnouers’ long standing Austrian ties began in 1973 74 with Elisabeth Wiesner staying with the Hoovers under AFS.
