The City Council approved a budget of 1,592,332 for 1966-66 and set an anticipated tax rate of 1.57. A resolution establishing the tax rate and an ordinance adopting the budget were approved for first reading at the regular meeting on August 11.

Contributions suggested to Los Angeles County Heart Association or Otto Holler Memorial Fund by Schooner Club of San Marino Community Church.
San Marino youths prepare for the All City Championship Swim Meet tomorrow at 7 30 p m with preliminaries tonight to decide finalists. Kiwanis Club co sponsors note waning sign ups due to vacations and camps but anticipate exciting races as new stars challenge records. Recreation officials also promote a Labor Day free swimming afternoon from 1 30 to 4 30 p m.
The city investigates stop signs at Canterbury Road and Winston Avenue after a serious accident last Wednesday.San Mariano police and the city engineer review both streets following multiple crashes since 1955 and a recent dairy truck collision injuring four people.
The Roanoke road alley behind the Tribune offices will be restricted to southbound traffic only. The change follows a City Council order and will be posted 30 days after the second reading at the September 8 meeting, affecting entry to the Von's market and city hall parking lots.

About 60 books were stolen from an unlocked garage in San Marino. Three cartons of college textbooks are believed missing between July 18 and August 1, alleged by Marcia R. Bridge of Las Flores Avenue.
The San Marino Board of Education approved disposal of about 10 tons of out-of-date textbooks stored in 250 boxes. They will be given to the Beverly Hills Auxiliary or the Jewish War Veterans for shipment to Appalacia and to the Department of Mental Hygiene at Camarillo Hospital for patient care use.
The San Marino City Council schedules three public hearings for September 8 to adopt ordinances establishing standards for new service stations and adding plumbing heating and air conditioning articles to the city codes. Hearings cover service station performance standards 8 p.m. 1964 Uniform Plumbing Code adoption 8:30 p.m. and the 1964 Uniform Heating and Comfort Cooling Code adoption aimed at creating a cooling code.
New hours for the San Marino Community Pool take effect from August 28 to September 30 for recreational swimming. The pool will be open daily from 1 30 to 5 30 p m Lockers will not be available but towels will be furnished.
