Thirty three San Marino Boy Scouts depart for Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island for a few weeks. Of the group 27 are from Troop 2 and five from Troop 8, marking the fifth camp of the season.
A 12 year old boy named Fred Patnince was found and returned home after an absence of about five hours. He left home with the intention of going to Utah, prompting his parents to notify authorities. The incident ended with his safe return.
Several young residents of San Marin witnessed a red and yellow monocoupe crash on Saturday morning in a field near Alhambra, west of Rexbury and Granada. The report notes the aircraft wreckage but lacks details on casualties or cause.

Plans for the rehabilitation and building activity at Huntington and Stoneman Schools are underway though not finished. Elmer C. Neher reports present wings and continuing progress as work advances toward the auditorium project.
Elmer C Neher reported a resignation after five years and Thomas Thayer left to join the University of Nevada in Reno. Miss Margaret Esther Barrow will succeed Thayer and teach the 8B grade. Barrow previously taught at Corona Junior High and is a graduate of the University of California. The new teacher will assist with pool and grade assignments as the school opens September 10.
San Marino remains vacation heavy with August figures showing 186 families absent daily. On Sunday August 12, 215 homes were guarded by local police. July totals averaged 147 homes daily with police making about 13 000 calls across the month.
The well known newspaper writer Carroll P. Corliss is in St Luke's Hospital after he was admitted last Friday. Friends hope for a speedy recovery as Corliss had planned a vacation from his editorial duties.
Police Officer Stewart rounded up a quartet of intoxicated persons late Sunday night. Two occupants were brought to headquarters and jailed until Monday morning when released on bail of 15 dollars each. They were found in a parked car at Palmas and Oakleigh drive at 2 am. two were released, two jailed.

F Stanley Wood of 1500 Old Mill Road was elected fourth area commander at the American Legion convention in San Francisco. He is active in San Marino South Pasadena and Alhambra life, works with the T Lyell Puckett Ford agency in Alhambra, and is son in law of San Marino unit president Mrs. Sarah Nash. Wood previously served as adjutant of the Los Angeles County Council in 1982 and was a former commander of the South Pasadena post.
Richard R. Coleman Jr. son of Mr and Mrs R R Coleman of San Marino died in San Antonio Texas after a rapid air trip from Mexico City for medical aid. He was born in Prescott Arizona in 1895 and moved to Los Angeles in 1905 with his family. He represented Frigidaire export division of General Motors in Mexico and South America.
No court session Saturday as Police Judge James P Mackel is absent from the city. The next session is set for August 25. A total of $84 in fines was collected at the last session.
