Reduction for San Marino changes city tax rate
At a crowded meeting of city trustees in San Marino the mayor W L Valentine announced a July 1 tax rate change from 1.04 to a new rate for the north California street area. The session also reviewed July building permits totaling 97 valued at 246 241.00, a rise from June. The street department reported costs of 3 442.14 for work, 575 for street looms, and 500 for lighting equipment. Planning commission notes on a comprehensive highway system were discussed and referred to the street committee. A report from District 7 office noted 129 funds paid into the city from taxes earlier elected, to be added to the general fund. Liability matters involving city employees and possible accidents were reviewed, with Deputy City Clerk Marie Barnewoldt on leave for six weeks.

Edith Heffner of Eastdrive led a group of ten girls from Camp Toyon at 3 10 A M to Catalina Island to the mainland Wilmington. They paddled a 25 foot canoe behind William Wrigley's yacht Quest at four miles per hour, breakfasting in Wilmington at 10 10 A M after weeks of training.
