August is Popular Travel Month for San Marinans

San Marino residents favored weekend coastal cruises from San Pedro and San Diego with fares as low as 229 per person. Groups of friends traveled together while husbands camped, and Alaska cruises drew crowds with two for one deals. Europe, Spain, Hawaii remained hot, and Southwest’s 25 ticket promo spurred trips to Oakland and Nevada.

San Marino Resident Receives LAPD Commendation

San Marino resident Alex Tse was thanked by LAPD Chief Willie Williams for his APIAC work. Tse, active in civic groups since 1983, founded the Asian Forum with the LAPD and serves as a director in local chambers and community organizations.

Partnership For New Board 1996 97 Leadership Elected

A new Governing Board was elected to lead Partnership for Awareness for the 1996 97 school year. Priscilla Jacobs becomes president after serving as executive vice president of the Carver School PTA. Officers include Pam Sheldon second vice president Elsa Lim secretary Elena Quon treasurer for the third time and Joanne Watchie advisor. Committee chairs Betty Tomnai and Joanne Watchie will publish the organization newsletter while Liz Kneier Debra Sadun handle mailing. Publicity by Valerie Casey Uhl. Sth Community Fair Mixture of Fun and Excitement

Deborah Yim reports the San Marino Chamber of Commerce will hold its 8th annual community fair on Thursday Oct 3 from 3 30 to 7 p m. Organizers Peggy Class Nancy Matthews Cathy Raacke Jim Tanner detail display spaces up to seven and a half by three feet with member fees 35 non members 85 due by Sept 27 to cover expenses. Last year about 450 participants and 400 to 500 residents attended, with local groups and national firms like American Cablevision Bank of America among exhibitors.

Watchdogs Join Nationwide Night Out Across San Marino

San Marino residents joined the nationwide America's Night Out Against Crime on August 6 to boost crime and drug awareness, strengthen police community relations, and empower residents. Neighborhood Watch blocks organized porch lights, a backyard picnic hosted by Block Captain Joanne Watchie, and a flashlight walk from El Molino Avenue to Ardmore Road. Mayfield Senior School prepares for the 1996 97 academic year marking its sixth year since opening. San Marino Students Spend Summer In CAST Research Program

San Marino high school juniors and seniors join the Committee for Advanced Scientific Training CAST at the California Museum of Science and Industry. Coordinated by Yoshi Yamasaki the program gives hands on research under a scientist’s supervision. Nine San Marino students were chosen from applicants including Rebecca Sadun who pursued microbiology interest.
