San Marino Gains From Tribune Census In Tax Disbursements
San Marino’s special census completed last fall boosted quarterly motor vehicle license fee payments to the city to 11 501 for April through June, a gain of 2 500 over the old base. The city’s per capita rate of 1.08 dollars and population 10 656 set by the federal government under the Tribune census yields larger distributions, with gas tax shares also improved. For the year ending, receipts rose about 5 000 versus the previous year, aided by the updated population figure and a one-time October 1948 expenditure to obtain the census, a Tribune project in 1948 that now shows expected benefits.

Pomona College Student Dies in Forest Fire
Newton Robert Thompson, 22, a Pomona College student and air force veteran, perished in a Saturday forest fire. He lived in San Marino and Alhambra area, entered the Forestry Service for the summer, planned to resume geology studies this fall. He is survived by parents, a sister, and grandmother. grandfather was former Alham Mayor and state senator. Services Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Turner chapel with interment at San Gabriel Cemetery.

Plans Announced to Enlarge San Marino Bank Branch
Security First National Bank in San Marino will remodel an adjoining storeroom into a larger space.
