Finis to Oakleigh Improvement
Finis was written to the Oakleigh drive improvement project. Wednesday evening's city council meeting, attended by all councilmen, overruled one protest against the assessment and ratified the levy. The street is now paved and open to traffic after years of consideration. The council asked the county board to include Raymond wash in San Marino in the storm drain district and urged South Pasadena to do the same for the wash portion in that community. An official San Gabriel Water Company report was filed and sent to Finance Chairman H. Stanley Bent. The city accepted a silk American flag donated by Councilman W. L. Valentine and approved an appreciation resolution for designer William Hertrich. Both flags were displayed before the judge's dais in the courtroom.

Jane Ann Green Celebrates 102nd Birthday at Daughter’s Home
At the home of her daughter Mrs. W. L. Johnson 1720 South Lost Robles Mrs. Jane Ann Green wife of Dr. W. L. Johnson marked her 102nd birthday Tuesday with relatives and friends calling for good wishes. Born August 8 1831 in Plymouth England she came to the United States at age 15 aboard a sailing vessel that took six weeks for the voyage. James K. Polk was president when she arrived in this country.

NRA Loan Requested By San Gabriel High School District
San Gabriel High School District filed a $300000 appropriation request with the NRA public works advisory board in Los Angeles. The funds would buy a 12 acre site for $30000 and build four structures including a 1200 seat auditorium at $100000 as part of a push for a local high school.

The San Gabriel Welfare Association placed 31 people in work during July, a month of better activity after a year with little employment.
