San Marino Mourns Captain Mee in Bomber Crash

Captain George L. Mee Jr., 26, executive officer of the 73rd squadron, died July 19 when a four engine bomber crashed in the Central Pacific while ferrying to the South Pacific. He was born in El Paso and lived in San Marino after moving from Wilcox Arizona. Memorial services at Palm Springs Army Air Base set for Sunday.

Mrs. H P Etter Dies After Illness in San Marino

Mrs. Harold P Etter a San Marino civic leader and charter San Marino Garden Club member died after a months long illness. She leaves husband Harold P Etter and three children David Betty and Robert. Services were held at the Wee Kirk of the Heather with interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

PTA Council Keeps Friday Shows For San Marino

The PTA council presents a second Friday afternoon feature in the Huntington school auditorium at 2 o clock for San Marino children. "The Gladiator" with Joe E Brown leads the program, followed by "Kinko the Kangaroo in Kinko at the Bat." Tickets cost 29 cents total with 17 cents admission and 3 cents tax.

School Boards Pass Budget For 1944 45

The South Pasadena San Marino High School district and the South Pasadena city school district approved the 1944 45 budgets with no tax rate rise for the high school district and a 9 cent increase for the elementary district. The plan funds salaries grounds improvements and a reserve for the building fund. Teacher Julia Adelia Wessenberg was hired for crafts at the senior high school. She holds a USC bachelor degree and studied at San Francisco State College and Banff School of Fine Arts. Home teaching for handicapped students will be adjusted due to teacher shortages, with sessions alternating two days one week and three days the next. The next board meeting is September 6.

Supervisors Seek Landmark Designation for Old Mill Site

The Old Mill site on Old Mill Road near Lacy Park is being considered for designation as a California state landmark. County Supervisor Roger W. Jessup leads the effort with the historical landmarks committee and the Division of National Resources to obtain a landmark number. Ex officio chair Alfred Jones notes much of the land is privately owned and may require special permission, with dedication ceremonies planned if registration is approved. El Molino Viejo, once a Padres mill, has been restored and now serves as a private San Marino home and golf clubhouse history site.

San Marino council re-refers storage project to planning panel

The Bekins and Oneonta transfer and storage petition to build storage warehouses on Huntington Drive is sent back to the city planning commission for further study and a new report. Resigns Post With Petroleum Administration

Clyde Thomas of San Marino resigns as district five legal counsel for the Petroleum Administration for War to return to private law practice in Los Angeles. Herbert R. Gallagher, district director, cites his outstanding executive and administrative ability and wishes him success. Thomas joined the district five staff before Pearl Harbor, is USC Law graduate, World War II veteran, and previously worked with U.S. Attorney staff in Los Angeles.

San Marino Girl Scouts Attend Camp Singing Pines

San Marino Girl Scouts attend Camp Singing Pines near Chileo for four two week sessions totaling 74 campers this summer. The season runs from July 6 to August 31 with a capacity attendance of 100 and a few openings in the fourth session due to cancellations.
