A Sierra Madre party en route to a beach picnic was disrupted by a fatal crash in San Marino. Hyman Greenberg 58 died after being thrown from an overturning Ford driven by Milton Bahr 53. Passengers Mrs Silvia Greenberg and three Bahr children injured. no inquest.
San Marino and Pasadena Council girl scouts attended Camp Duquesne in Los Angeles County with 155 participants across three sessions. Camp saw extended stays for many and featured outings including horseback riding and mountain retreats, as Troop 37 27 44 46 14 members are listed among the attendees.
The San Marino Tribune reveals prizes for the Puzzle Picture contest including a Candid Camera, a white enameled double compact from San Marino Pharmacy, a Westclox pocket watch from Schreyer's Pharmacy, a focusing flashlight or a Jane Amherst hors d oeuvres set from Shopping Bag, plus more. Edgar W Smith longtime resident of South Pasadena and Mesa Arizona died Tuesday August 1 in Mesa. A Minneapolis native and 1907 Minnesota School of Mines graduate he became a mining engineer in the southwest and served as a first lieutenant in the U S Army engineering corps during World War I. He married Helen Porter in Minneapolis.
Dr E Randall Kerr will take a two week break at Sequoia National Park to rest. He and Mrs Kerr of 1355 Winston Avenue depart Sunday for Camp Kinea and plan quiet days watching bears and listening to campfire programs.
The San Marino Public Library adds a Pasadena line for Sycamore Exchange patrons. The new number is Sycamore 6 6352 to aid callers seeking library services.
Ed Ainsworth criticizes the California State Board of Equalization for granting an on sale beer and wine license to Pierre's Restaurant in San Marino on Huntington Drive. He notes city officials and residents opposed the license and argues the board acted only because law required, not by choice.

William Vaughn of San Marino told San Marino Rotarians about his decade in Japan in the 1890s. He described riding to Mount Fuji’s rim on a bicycle and using a rope brake with a sled to descend safely. He later worked for a bicycle agency and performed as a trick rider in theatres.
Five San Marino Legion members will travel to Oakland for the state American Legion convention scheduled August 14 through 16. Delegates include Norvin Smith Stanley Arndt William McKeson Allan Maxwell and new commander August Pierre.

Two San Marino homes were burgarized around 10 o clock last night. At 834 Plymouth road, Ro bert J. Gillette reported the loss of a ladies gray squirrel coat valued at 60 dollars and a ladies caracular coat worth 75 dollars. Howard E. Coggeshall of 2784 Carlaris saw entry and losses include eight dollars in cash three pairs of cuff links and a college pin. Both owners had not reported their absence to police, and details remain incomplete as the Tribune was going to press.
