In the Pasadena section of the Colorado Aqueduct tunnel crews from Dixon Bent Brothers and Johnson shattered weekly and monthly boring records. The 691 foot weekly advance set for the week ending July 27 surpasses prior marks of 591 feet and 1765 feet for the month, as two thirds of the tunnel under Mountain Street reaches 8188 feet. City engineer-street superintendent Harvey W. Hincks credits modern machinery steel rib support lagging conditions and a bonus for speed. Supervisors H Stanley Bent and William A. Johnson led the effort and earned congratulations.

Dr. Robert A. Millikan of Cal Tech offers a reward for the recovery of delicate instruments sent aloft from San Antonio Texas to study cosmic rays.
