Water Safety and Blood Drive Highlight San Marino Events

The August 14 Red Cross Blood Bank drive at the San Marino Woman's Club runs 3 to 7 30 p m while the city hosts an Aqua Carnival at the San Marino Community Pool Friday night featuring water ballet demonstrations life saving diving and crafts The event bundles with a Senior Life Saving course starting August 11 for 16 plus and pre tests available daily through guards on duty plus a call for family participation in water safety training to benefit the community.

James C Wright of Sherwood Road is named among 23 jurors for a new Federal Grand Jury of 15 men and 8 women. The group, including four others from the San Gabriel Valley, will begin hearing cases on September 10.

Over 100 San Marino High School football hopefuls are set for fall workouts starting September 8 under Coach Bob Mahoney. Mornings run 8:30 to 10:30 and evenings from 7 to 9 with separate A and B squads. C team begins a week later.

Irene Larson Services Held for Pasadena Resident

Final rites were held August 6 at Turner and Stevens chapel for Irene Larson of Pasadena formerly Beloit Wisconsin who died August 5. Burial followed at Mountain View cemetery. Survived by her husband Henry Larson of Ford Illinois a sister Mrs John Warner and a niece Mrs J L Mc Kee plus several nieces and nephews in the east.

New Fire Guard Set At Huntington

Funeral Services Held Saturday For Mrs Hoon

Funeral services for Mrs Jo Deen Hoon were held Saturday August 2 at San Marino Community Church with Rev Ben T Cowles officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery. Mrs Hoon died July 30 in West Los Angeles. Survived by husband Howard C Hoon Jr two sons Howard C Hoon III and Thomas C Hoon parents Dr and Mrs Roy Thomas of Los Angeles and two sisters.

City Fire Loss Down During Year So Far

San Marino fire department figures show first three quarters of 1958 reduced fire losses. July totals reached 14 fires, up from 13 in July 1957, with one residential and four auto or misc fires. Fire inspections by the company and the Inspection Bureau totaled 166, including 41 resuscitation calls.

Requiem Mass was held Monday at St. Felicitas and Perpetua Church for Joseph A. Stanko of Gainsborough Road who died in Paris on July 26. Interment followed in Resurrection Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Ellen J. Stanko a daughter Mrs. Jack Mathews a brother John J. John W. Anderson Funeral Services Planned Today

John W. Anderson dies August 3 in San Marino California at age. Funeral services set for today August 7 at 1 p.m. at San Marino Congregational Church led by Rev. Bertrand R. Crist. He was a native of Duluth Minnesota, resident of San Marino 11 years, charter member of the church and of the San Gabriel Valley Dental Association. Survived by wife Gladys V. San Marino trio begins John Muir Trail training trek

San Marino High School seniors Bruce Wagner Tom Morgan and Key Lawson start a 220 mile backpack trek from Yosemite to Mt Whitney. They plan a three day pace with 30 pound loads rising to 40 pounds and will cache supplies at Ranger stations while relying on dehydrated foods and custom packaging.
