A bandit known as the adhesive tape man struck the Union Oil at Mission and Los Robles taking 37.70 from the safe. He fled east through an alley after ordering attendants to place money in a bag. Suspect described as American, 35, 5'6", 135 lbs, with a scar taped, driving a 1937 gray Dodge.

Funeral Held for Grandson of W L Valentine
Funeral services for Otis Buckingham Jr. grandson of Mr and Mrs William L Valentine of Pasadena were held at the Church of Our Saviour after he died from a bullet wound sustained in a mock pistol duel with a neighborhood friend. He died at Huntington Memorial Hospital after a valiant fight. He attended Polytechnic Elementary and Thatcher School in Ojai and is survived by his parents Sue Valentine Buckingham and Otis Buckingham and a brother Henry Winthrop Buckingham. The shooting, ruled accidental, occurred when the two boys inspected an unloaded gun in Otis room. the weapon was a .38 caliber pistol used by George Sherwood. Buckingham Sr an assistant vice president at Security First National Bank Pasadena was in the hospital.

Research Conference at Library Hosts Medieval Studies Weekend
More than 20 scholars focused on English life and letters of the Medieval and Renaissance periods attended a three day conference at the Huntington Library. Bicyclist Hurt in Collision With Auto
A young bicyclist Richard Gilman of 2540 Monterey road was injured Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car driven by C. L. Twycross of Sierra Madre at Los Robles and Wilson. Gilman suffered abrasions and a bruised hip and head and was treated by Dr. Lorenzo D. Whiting.

Heath Home Burglarized Again In Carmel
The Heath residence at 2080 Lombardy road was burglarized while the owners were in Carmel for two months. A fur coat was stolen and a broken bathroom door pane was found on the upper porch. Police recovered only a heel plate fragment as a clue, tying the incident to a prior daylight burglary on Circle Drive.

Antique Watch Disappears In Quiet Theft Case

High school budget approves new earthquake safe building plan
The South Pasadena-San Marino High School District adopts a 1941-42 budget totaling 405 303 dollars with 143 256 dollars to be raised by taxes. A proposed 91 000 dollar one story replacement for the unsafe main building will be funded by a direct two year tax levy about 10 cents per year. July building activity in San Marino totaled $215 648, up from $201 104 in July 1940, with seven month 1941 volume at $1 363 059 versus $1 371 507 last year. City building inspector George Crowshey reports 22 new homes permits for the month and August additions so far total six new homes and two additions worth $54 625.
