Strange traffic flood mars Santa Anita avenue during water flush

On Wednesday July 29 Omidren and older youths rode water skiers through Santa Anita avenue as 300 to 600 gallons per minute blasted along both sides. The surge lasted 2 to 4 p.m fueled by an acre foot flushed from a Pasadena Metropolitan Water District line.

San Marino Building Department July 1964 Valuation Totals

The July 1964 building valuation in San Marino was 14836, down from 1983 figures by over 65000. New July valuations include 43000 for one resident, 10736 for pools, 78218 for additions and alterations, and 19587 for heating permits. The first seven months total about half of last year, with July year end at 1317325. The report lists 4436 homes, 815 pools, 99 vacant lots, 33 commercial lots, and 118 commercial buildings.

Popular Vote Winners Of Art Show Named

Winners in the San Marino Public Library third annual All San Marino Artists Exhibition and Competition were announced by librarian Miss June Bayless. Louis Creveling won first for Mission Arches of Father Kino's Church at Caborca. second place tied among Dorothy Burke The Brooding Sea Jeanne Law Jacobson Balboa Pavilion and Mabel Heitschmidt Spring Flows. The show runs August and September with a later display by three San Gabriel Valley women painters announced later.

Named To Head Committee For San Marino Bond Vote

John P. Andrews and Mrs. DeForest Baldwin are named co chairs of the Citizens Committee backing a $350000 bond issue in September. They previously served on Support San Marino Schools Committee for the June tax and bond election. Frank Rice says committee members will continue efforts for a second bond bid to fund a capital building program at San Marino schools. Andrews, Sherwood Road resident, has 15 years in the city and is an FBI special agent with past service in Washington Newark. He holds a University of Pittsburgh bachelor, Columbia education master, and Duquesne law degree.

Local Girl Wins Junior Tennis Title

Fifteen year old Cydne Haffner won the Los Angeles Junior Metropolitan Tennis Championship in the 16 years and under division last Friday. A San Marino High School sophomore, she defeated two seeded players and beat 15-year-old Gloria Pananides of Bakersfield in the finals. The trophy was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Haffner of Mirasol Drive.

San Marino Rotarian Tal Jones Heads to Canada for Church Service

Tal Jones a San Marino Rotarian and longtime Huntington Drive accountant leaves with family for a three year unpaid mission post in Western Canada presiding over a Mormon mission area from Calgary. He will live in the new mission home with wife and four of seven children. Jones has served as bishop and local stake president and plans to return to his San Gabriel area business after his term ends.
