Midget Bees Are Champs A's Take Third
San Marino Bee team captured first place in the midget hardball league by defeating Alhambra 6 to 5 and Pasadena 8 to 0. Dave Carter pitched a two hit shutout against Pasadena, with Dave Brian and Tex Kiner providing key hits and base running. Alhambra provided the tougher test, but a fourth inning burst in the seventh clinched the win for San Marino as Carter again earned the mound victory while Brian and David Scanlan added two hits each. The Bees opened the playoffs last Monday against an unknown Southern league opponent. The A league finished third after an extra inning 7 5 loss to Monrovia, defeating South Pasadena 7 to 0 behind Jim McDonald’s two-hits and 16 strikeouts in both games, finishing with five wins and five losses. In hardball, the Wildcats of Huntin remained undefeated atop the league after a 21 to 19 win over Carver, powered by Barry Vaughn and John Beaman with a Beaman triple and Bill Walthall’s last-inning double play assist. The Panther lineup featured David Boyle, Bob Chehock, Bill Beman, Ralph Bizantz, Frank Poyas, John Lindley, and pitcher Chris Hagy.
