Dr Jo Marie Reilly recipient of the Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Educator in Family Practice selected from twenty nationwide entrants. She will receive honors at a breakfast during the AAFP Assembly in Orlando October 7 10 1992 and has a background in Titan Varsity Track and Cross Country with multiple league and CIF titles. Reilly nearing completion of Family Practice residency at Kaiser Medical Center while involved in community service in Los Angeles and linked to the Indian Health Service. Her parents are Gene and Carol Ruckh, and she and husband Michael reside in Sherwood Road, Huntington Beach.

Industrialist and Nixon ally Thomas P Pike dies at 83
Thomas Potter Pike a Californian from San Marino and founder of Pike Drilling Co. died July 30 at 83. A Harvard Military School and Stanford graduate, he joined Republic Supply Co. in 1939, later becoming Assistant Secretary of Defense for Supply and Logistics in Eisenhower’s administration and Special Assistant to the President at the White House from 1956 to 1958. He was politically active, backing Nixon for Congress and aiding Nixon’s 1960 campaign and Reagan’s 1960 gubernatorial bid.

Nancy Payne dies leader of many groups in Boise and LA
Nancy Reed Payne of San Marino Pasadena and Boise died July 27 at age 63 in Boise Idaho. She led numerous organizations including the Junior League of Pasadena Trojan League Los Angeles Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee and San Marino Schools PTA. She attended USC graduating in 1952 and was involved with the William Wilson Company from 1978 to 1992. Private graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Glendale with a memorial at the Valley Hunt Club. Memorials may be made to The Nancy Reed Payne Memorial Fund Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

San Marino Planning Commission Split 2 2 Over New Restaurant
In San Marino a 2 2 tie among four planners kept a new pizza and pasta restaurant at 2527 Mission Street from approval. Norman Cheng plans a CUP driven by 50 percent sit down 30 takeout and 20 percent delivery with 18 conditions including parking, restrooms and hours. Cheng will appeal to the city council after the tie vote by Commissioners Soderberg Worcester and Dagermangy.

San Marino Police Arrest LSD and Marijuana Dealer
San Marino police arrest a 19 year old man for possession with intent to sell LSD and marijuana. He sold 100 LSD tabs for 175 dollars to a police informant. 388 LSD tabs and nearly two ounces of marijuana were found at his Arcadia apartment. Police say he was a major distributor for San Marino and Arcadia. Separately a suspect burglarized two San Marino hair salons and stole from a glass tip jar and a cash box. Also, lockers at San Marino High School were blown up in an incident reported July 27.

San Marino Little League All Stars Fall in Sectional Thriller
After a record breaking season the San Marino All Stars saw their run end in Vincent Lugo Park San Gabriel with a beating loss to Crescenta Valley in extra innings in the sectional tournament third game. San Marino earlier beat El Monte 8 3 with Eddie Choi belting two homers including a grand slam while Bart Babcock and others contributed solid hits. The team had reached Sectionals for first time since 1988 and had the rare feat of winning a sectional game.
