Water Safety Program Teaches San Marino Youth
More than 100 San Marino youths will learn water safety from basic swimming to junior lifesaving at the high school pool this summer. Jointly sponsored by the San Marino Recreation Department and the San Marino Red Cross, the program spans about 155 classes with Red Cross certificates awarded on completion. William D. Ross chairs the effort, directing volunteer mothers who organized the registrations as enrollments neared eight hundred.

San Marino Planning Commission Grants Variances for Lot Split and Medical Building Parking
The San Marino Planning Commission approved a three lot split on Rosalind Road owned by Collis Holladay, creating two lots totaling over 23 000 square feet facing east with 111 000 square feet remaining on the original site. A parking variance was also granted for a proposed second story addition to Dr. Ben Patton’s medical building at 2375 Huntington Drive, allowing 10 spaces instead of four, contingent on use of Edmund's Church lot during weekday hours. The commission also plans a West San Marino branch of the bank on Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue with about 4600 square feet and 16 off street spaces, employing six to seven staff, and the existing bank facility will be expanded into a half million dollar project with a new fence and demolition of older buildings.

Two SMHS Grads Sworn-in At The US Naval Academy
Two San Marino High School graduates, John W Buckingham and Jeffrey H Flannery, were sworn in as midshipmen in the US Naval Academy class of 1969 in Annapolis Maryland. Buckingham, 16, and Flannery, 18, are entering plebe summer ahead of the fall brigade. Buckingham played football and baseball and was active in the Promethean and Key Club while Flannery is noted as future naval officers.

Burglars Hit San Marino Clothier For Third Time
San Marino police investigate two suspects in a third break in this year at the Andover Shop on Huntington Drive. The 2465 Huntington address was entered in the early hours last Friday after the front door lock was jimmied. A late model car with a screwdriver and wallet inside was found in the alley, and gin e suits were reported missing from the store, totaling 27 suits.
