Memorial honors Erdman and 182 Navy air crew at Dunkeswell
Robert C. Erdman and 182 other U S Navy air crew members who died operating from Dunkeswell air station in England have their names inscribed on a permanent memorial. Fleet Air Wing 7 and RAF Coastal Command unveiled a bronze tablet bearing the deceased and a memorial organ was installed in nearby Dunkeswell parish church. Fleet Air Wing 7 conducted about 65 000 sorties from September 1943 to June 1 1945, at the Navy air station near Exeter in Devon, the only U S Navy air base in England.
