About 200 members of the newspaper fraternity attended the dedication of the Los Angeles Times new building. Ed Armsworth and Clarke Waite spoke before Harry Chandler recalled the paper's early days, then guests toured the facility on a guided floor-by-floor pilgrimage.
The Carroll J. Holt fund aims to send Scoutmaster Carroll Holt to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington from August 21 to 30. The Tribune reports most money raised, leaving only $20 remaining. San Marinans urged to donate 50 cents to 20 dollars at The Tribune office or to Mr. Collins. Additional donors include E. J. Fleming and Bob Fréman.
Norvin E. Smith longtime chairman of the American Legion Department of California seeks the office of department commander. He has been endorsed by San Marino Post 239 and the 18th District and has held roles including department chairman of the guests committee in 1933 and chair of the miscellaneous Americanism resolutions subcommittee. His World War I service with the First Division included four major battles four sectors, where he was wounded.
Miss Hussey leaves for a vacation at Lake Tahoe and other northern resorts. She has worked for San Marino for over four years as assistant to Harvey.
During July six new home permits were granted and two large improvement permits issued. July building total reached 50 835 dollars. Main activity centered on Winthrop and Plymouth with four homes started. Final permit went to T H Eggleston at 804 Plymouth Road for an eight room two story house costing 7500 dollars, architect H O Sexsmith, contractor Ralph S Holden.
Local baseball fans are urged to support their home team the San Marino Night Baseball team as they face a Vernon based team from the American Fruit Company at Huntington School grounds Tuesday evening at 7 30. After the game a permanent captain and manager will be elected and plans for a full season schedule are discussed.
The San Marino Tribune reports it purchased a lot on Huntington Drive near the city hall through the San Marino Red Company. The move aims to house a printery sized to meet years of need, easing current congestion and allowing better offices, lighting, ventilation, and room for machinery. Progress updates will follow as the project advances.
A Pasadena meeting is planned this week to form positions on sharing Colorado River Aqueduct water with foothill areas. Franklin Thomas leads the special committee meeting with Metropolitan Water District directors John R. Richards Victor H. Rosetti S H Finley John H Ramirez and others to hear terms for Southern California cities including Anaheim Beverly Hills Burbank Compton Fullerton Glendale Long Beach and Los Angeles.
The George S Stoneman Parent-Teacher Association opens its year with plans for parental education and consumer education. Mrs. McClarty Harbison presides as new president and announces new chairmen. Meetings will seek varied programs and cooperation between groups. Cities listed include Angeles, Pasadena, San Marino, Santa Ana, Santa Monica and Torrence.
