Scouts Celebrate Tenth Anniversary In Pasadena San Gabriel Valley

The Pasadena San Gabriel Valley Council marks its tenth year with a gathering of fourteen troops and guests. Scoutmaster Clyde Hurley has guided growth from twelve boys to fifty and the addition of two cabins at the park site, with notable activities narrated by Kes Mathews and a flashlight animals and birds lecture by A Atkinson.

New Water Rates Effective July at Euclid Avenue

The Euclid Avenue Water Company announces rate changes going into effect July 31 to improve service in San Marino's western section. The new charges start at 25 cents per 100 cubic feet for the first 500 cubic feet, then 15 cents per 100 for the next 1,000 cubic feet, claimed as the area's lowest private company rate.

Banker Trial in September in Embezzlement Case

Richard Roberts former vice president of the suspended South Pasadena National Bank faces a $4 800 embezzlement charge and a $3 000 unauthorized loan claim. The hearing is set for September 6 to determine if there is sufficient evidence to present to the federal grand jury. Roberts posted a $5 000 bond and resides at 123 Columbia Street South Pasadena. The bank closed last June and auditors flag bank losses totaling about $850 000.

City Playground Proves Popular

The city playground sees a surge in attendance as buses transport over a hundred children daily to the recreation center. Supervisor M. C. Hull notes at least a 30 percent rise in sports-field attendance, with games overseen by Miss Lucile Peake and Mr Ayers.

Bronze Medal Awarded to Dr Cole by National Library

Dr Cole receives the bronze medal from the National Library of France for compiling church literature forming the nucleus of Huntington Library. He traveled to Europe for Ben Johnson research and to edit Johnson's Masque of the Gypsies at Huntington Library, while engaging with the Italian government. Grand Jury Indicts Six In Pasadena Corruption Case

A Pasadena grand jury indicted three former city employees and three contractors on theft charges. William C. Earle former city engineer, Cletus M. Ward, W J Watson, William F. Ducey Theodore Breitenstein and O K Hearte were named with bench warrants issued by Judge Carlos C Hardy. Bail set at 40000 for most, 20000 for Ducey Breitenstein and Hearte, 10000 for Watson and Ward. Witnesses testified and Ward allegedly confessed that Earle paid him 8000 to raise assessments on Linda Vista avenue West Colorado street and Avenue 64. If convicted on multiple counts, sentences could run from one to ten years per count.

El Molino Station Steps Under Way

Citizens who used the Pacific Electric trains at Molino station petitioned to add steps for easier access. The San Marino City club presented the petition and the city council with the railway agreed on plans. Work is expected to be finished by press time.
