Cal-Am Water Wins 13 Percent Rate Rise Approval
The California Public Utilities Commission approved a 13 percent rate increase for California-American Water in its San Marino district and other districts on July 24. The San Marino system serves 13,820 customers and will see bills rise about 3.73 dollars monthly for a typical 2,600 cubic foot usage, from 26.23 to 29.96 dollars. The company said the hike offsets higher costs for water from the Main San Gabriel Basin Watermaster and Metropolitan Water District, power, postage, and other expenses, and the new rate may be implemented five days after approval.

Alexander Mark Federico, 7th grader from Huntington School, son of Kathy and Michael Federico, died after losing control while roller blading on an incline in Redondo Beach. Ten San Marino Boy Scouts join 12,000-plus from 100-plus countries at the International Scouting Movement 17th World Scout Jamboree in Sorak National Park Korea August 8 16. They tour Japan en route and join Troop 1410 with 750 BSA participants led by Bruce Davis. The group includes Kip Braun Kwong Minh Chong Matt Davis Nick Davis Craig Mooney Jonathan Watford and Chris Yount from Troop 351 and others from Troop 355. Architectural Design Comes Home For A Few Huntington Students
Huntington seventh and eighth graders completed an architecture course from research to site drawings and models culminating in a public exhibition of home models. Guided by Vicki Provencher the students studied family homes, visited San Marino sites, and used City Hall and Historical Society resources with help from local architects Kirk Helm and Ray Deer.
