San Marino Rotary hears estate planning talk today
Scott organized today's program at 12 15. Frank Miles Flint of the Citizens Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles will discuss estate planning. Last week Ken Stuart of the Los Angeles Forty Plus Club gave a detailed talk on club functions and outcomes. Several Rotarians attended the 107 district assembly at the Miramar Hotel Santa Monica July 29. President Tom Hammond and others toured, then swam and boated after 4 o clock. About 225 Rotarians enjoyed dinner and music. The group voted to host the 107 District Conference at the Huntington Hotel in April with nearby clubs assisting.

Cub Pack Meet Draws Large San Marino Audience
Last Tuesday evening at the Huntington School auditorium about 150 San Marinans attended the Cub Pack gathering, including 45 Cubs. Den 6 and Den 10 staged a shadow play with lighting effects, followed by a Cherokee themed skit and group songs led by Scoutmaster Walker.

Presbyterians Plan New Community Church In San Marino
About 50 residents met at 2170 Chaucer to organize a Presbyterian Community Church. A city permit approved for temporary quarters at Southwestern Military Academy on Monterey Road enables a September 10 public meeting and September 15 Sunday School start. J B Easley chaired, Rev Ralph Shanks spoke on Gold in the Center, hopes indicate the church will serve as a community center for youth.

Last Rites For Mrs Macfarland Held Monday
Eleanor Banning Macfarland, sister of Hancock Banning Jr., died Saturday at her South Pasadena home. Funeral at Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel conducted by Bishop W Bertrand Stevens and Dr. John R Atwill. Survived by husband John Cobb MacFarland and three children, plus mother and two brothers. She chaired the San Marino Library board and served on UC Regents.

Lawrence Harper Named South Pasadena School District Business Manager
Lawrence Harper, 36, will assume duties August 12 as business manager of the South Pasadena school district, replacing the late Will R. Speer who was shot in May along with four other officials by Verlin Spencer who received life imprisonment. Harper previously taught at Anderson Union High School and became principal in 1934. he is married with two children and began house hunting after appointment. His wife accompanied him for the interview with the school board.

San Marino reports its July building total at 192 048 with a weekly shipment of 65 576. Miss Mellor Hartshorn 28 of Pasadena died July 27 and services were held Tuesday in Pasadena with Dr. Theodore Soares officiating. A native of Pasadena she studied at Occidental College and USC and had worked at the San Marino Public Library since January 1938 in charge of periodicals and exhibits. Survived by her parents Mr and Mrs W L Hartshorn and sister Mary of Pasadena and an uncle Roy M Richardson of San Marino.

Spencer Is Given Five Life Terms In San Quentin
Verkin H. Spencer, former San Marino South Pasadena Junior High principal, was sentenced to five consecutive life terms at San Quentin for the confessed killings of five South Pasadena school officials. A sixth term up to 20 years for attempted murder was also imposed.
