Valentine's Math-a-Thon A Record Success

Valentine's School celebrated its Math-a-Thon with nearly 600 students in attendance and a record 96 percent participation for 2002. Fourth and Fifth Grades each posted 100 percent, sharing a giant pizza party as top participants, while many other classrooms also earned cookie parties.

Huntington Library tax debate heads to council study session

San Marino City Council will discuss the utility user tax agreement with The Huntington Library at a Wednesday April 10 2002 study session open to the public at 6 00 p m in the Emergency Operations Center behind City Hall. The library faces a potential 4000 yearly flat tax rising to about 40000 if taxed with residents. Later at 730 p m an engineer report on Los Robles Avenue traffic signals and the placement of all way stop signs will be reviewed.

Westerners Name McDonald Speaker on E. Huntington

Telleen couple awarded Paul Harris Fellowships in San Marino

Longtime San Marino residents Sherm and Marge Telleen were honored with Paul Harris Fellowships by the Rotary Club of San Marino at Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. David Zeidberg praised their deep community involvement and willingness to help. Both alumni of Stanford, Sherm led the San Marino School Board and Marge chaired the Republican Club of San Marino.

Huntington Library expansion funded by Munger gift

The Huntington Library will nearly double its rare book space with a new 90,000 square foot Munger Research Center funded by Nancy and Charles Munger's $21 million gift. The facility adds a conservation lab and digital imaging lab, expanding year round scholarly access and off site storage relief.

Yard Signs On The Way To Support San Marino Schools

The San Marino Schools Foundation aims to raise at least 550000 annually to fund teacher salaries and instructional materials. The campaign will support about 10 teaching positions to reduce class sizes across the district, promoting a stronger education for students.

Library Offers Internet Classes for Everyone This Spring

The library resumes free Saturday morning Internet sessions in late April. Each 1.5 hour class starts at 9:00 AM and requires prior registration. Basic class on April 27 and May 18, Search Engines May 11 May 25 and June, E mail May 4, Advanced class for experienced users. Space is limited call (626) 300 0776 to sign up. More classes possible in June.
